In this OVA series we revisit the vivid world that Suisei no Gargantia (Anime Series) built for us during its original 13 episode run + 2 additional unaired episodes. We see a welcome return to the lives and interactions of the characters on what is essentially a floating metropolis. The series did well in introducing many fresh concepts with this unique setting and this OVA series continues to build that universe to an extent.
Story wise the OVA has a good start on the first episode letting you have a taste of what life is on board Gargantia for our main characters after the end of the series. It both serves to advance a new main plot as well as providing a good bit of action/suspense and flashback scenes depicting hardships on Gargantia prior in the timeline to the ending of the anime series.
The second episode in this OVA continues to try to expand on this main plot, in addition new revelations of what earth was and its current state of affairs is are further revealed, but there is simply too much to process in what is essentially an hour long episode. You get a glimpse of what could have been had the second season not been scrapped. Ultimately leaving you wanting more.
Not much happens in the front of character development to alter the current status quo we had on the series. Only the addition of a character central to the OVA plot but without much substance to matter beyond being just that.
I wish we could give scores for each OVA episode as scoring is suffering from having a decently rated first episode by a somewhat of a letdown on the second.
Suisei no Gargantia: Meguru Kouro, Haruka is the culmination of an anime that introduced fresh concepts and ideas. But the story doesn't really end here, it provides a setup for what could have been an interesting second season. Something that wont be happening and will only be available in reading format. Consequently leaving you with a bittersweet aftertaste.
