Kill la Kill Specials

キルラキル 特別編

Peace has returned to Honnouji Academy at last, and now that it has served its original purpose, the unique high school is set to be shut down within a month. However, there is still one final event that must take place: the graduation ceremony. As each member of the student council prepares to leave their past selves behind to focus on what they would like to do in the future, Satsuki Kiryuuin struggles to find her own path, having lost her resolve after finally achieving victory. But just before she is to give her speech to the student body, the ceremony is disrupted by mysterious beings that are identical to the student council members. As Ryuuko Matoi and the Elite Four prepare for battle once more, they quickly discover that the one pulling the strings is an old enemy who has returned to take revenge. (Source: MAL Rewrite)

When I saw the end credits of the finale, I thought THAT would be what the OVA would be about. I just eat up heroes/heroines trying to live a normal life and then random bullsh*t happens and they need to suit up. It's why I liked Bleach's first season so much and why I'm looking forward to the 4th season, filler or not.
So what did I get? A Honnouji Academy graduation and an explanation to Satsuki's new hairdo (which I did not give 2 f*cks about). MAJOR disappointment on my end.

Might be better to watch this one in succession with the rest of the series. Without the build up of having just watched the rest of Kill La Kill, this OVA feels really rushed and doesn't really add much. I enjoyed it, but also  felt like it kind of fell flat in comparison to how much fun the rest of the series was. Watch it, but don't expect to be blown away.

A nice round-off of the main story arc. Despite the cataclysmic final victory of the last episode, the writers actually managed to scrape together a few baddies for a plausible and satisfying encore.

The style, quality and overall tone is like the main show. Animation is great for the fight scenes and reasonably ok for the rest, but since you watch Kill la Kill for the fighting anyway that couldn't be more perfect. And the voice actors must have had a blast recording this. If I was Japanese I'd wish I could speak like Gamagori.

This instalment is technically not a must-watch and should definitely not be watched before the main show since it is crawling with spoilers. But it provides you with more of the same while elaborating a little on the ending of the story, so if you are a fan of Kill la Kill you don't wanna miss it.

Imagine your feelings from before. Times that by a trillion and you have the OVA.

It brings back everything, adds more, brings in a new epic level of epicness that you are surely to cry.

If you didn't cry you have no soul.

An enjoyable watch from start to finish, an excellent ending to this amazing Anime.

If you're like me and you enjoyed every episode of Kill la Kill there is no reason for you to not enjoy this special. The story is whacky and unbeleivable but it keeps you watching and still wanting more. All of the characters that you've been following throughout the series and have loved (or hated) are here in this special for one last farewell to the viewers, universe and Honnouji academy.

Story: 10/10Typical Trigger story that just ends Kill la Kill in probably the best way they could have done. There is no reason to not watch this episode if you enjoyed the story of the full season.

Animation: 10/10It feels like Trigger went all out and annihilated their budget with this one. It's also the same as other Kill la Kill episodes but it seemed smoother than before which is excellent.

Sounds: 10/10I don't know if music goes with this one but they used the same soundtrack as before, the soundtrack however is amazing and I have no quarrels with it as I listen to it on a daily basis. It's all proffesionally done as always and Trigger are probably the best studio for sound design.

Character: 11/10It's the same characters as previously mentioned. I still love them all and the way they are portrayed in this anime, even a special someone appears which almost made a tear trickle down my eye once again.

Enjoyement: 10/10One of, if not the best OVA special I have ever watched.

Overall: 10/10I hope Trigger continues to make excellent and enjoyable anime like Kill la Kill as it's made it's way into my top 10 list. Probably being the best Anime this year by miles. Congratulations on your success Trigger and I hope to see more from you soon!
