GARO THE ANIMATION
牙狼〈GARO〉-炎の刻印-In Garo: Honoo no Kokuin, Makai Knights and Alchemists, those who are able to keep supernatural enemies at bay, are feared and hated in the kingdom of Valiante. Encouraging this fear is the king’s trusted advisor, Mendoza, who convinces him to launch an all-out purge. Those of Makai blood are hunted and imprisoned or burned at the stake for so-called witchcraft. However, a dark omen is cast over Valiante when the execution of the last “witch” ends in the birth of her child who is saved from the flames by his father, a Makai Knight. German spirits the baby Leon away from Valiante and raises him as a Makai Knight of the Garo armor. Now, they have been recalled to Valiante by the ever-increasing swarm of Horrors preying on unsuspecting civilians. With no Makai Knights left to defend them, the people are desperate. In answer to this desperation, Valiante’s Prince Alfonso sets out for help. How will these two sides clash? Will Leon and German be able to save their homeland?

Do you like the Devil May Cry games? This is basically the anime version of that type of game and genre.
What should you expect? A cliche story that works as a framework for the action. Cliche doesn't necessarily mean bad but its nothing amazing if you are just in it for the story. So how is the action then? It's SSStylish!!! The speed and the moves are hype and that's about all I can say without sounding like drone or spoiling it.
The armors are CG. Why are they CG? Because they are beautiful. There were 1 or 2 hiccups around climactic battles but other than that the animation was pretty good.
The main characters have tons of charisma. German is basically Dante. Leon is Nero. Ema is Lady. And so on... It is a pretty good cast.
I came into it with zero expectations and after seeing the first episode I felt character action. And my expectation for the rest of the anime was just that and it was successfully met. The character action genre is hit or miss. I say give it a shot and see if its your thing.

Before starting this show I, just like many others, didn't think too much of it. Studio MAPPA has had their several up and downs but after seeing Garo I can confidently say that they are a fairly good studio. This story is quite simply, about the Makai Knights fighting to protect people from beings called Horrors. Leon Luis, German Luis, Prince Alphonso, and Ema are the characters we follow throughout. The characterization of each are individual, relatable, and have great chemistry with one another. The comedy of the series is well timed and isn't over exaggerated, it also definitely knows when to get serious. The action is quite commendable, very nice lighting, choreography, and animation. Even the CGI in this anime is pretty to look at, it goes quite well with the design of the characters. Soundtrack is nice but nothing to write home about, fits the scenes well. Overall, I really enjoyed this series, it would be a shame to overlook it.
