Saekano: How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend

冴えない彼女〈ヒロイン〉の育てかた

One day, an otaku high school student Tomoya Aki has a fateful encounter with a girl. This meeting inspires Tomoya to design his very own “gal-game” featuring a heroine modeled after the girl he saw. In order to make his desire a reality, Tomoya must persuade a few eccentric “creators” such as the ace member of the art club, Eriri Spencer Sawamura and the school’s top student, Utaha Kasumigaoka to join his development team. Meanwhile, Tomoya is shocked to learn that the girl he idolized as his muse for this whole project was none other than his boring classmate, Megumi Kato! (Source: Crunchyroll)

SEASON 2 THIS SPRING

It's okay. There are no real surprises here. The main character is not all that great, and is generally an ass most of the time. Typically oblivious to everything around him, and wins the girls by being the "nice guy". I use quotes there because he really isn't a nice guy at all. However, all that being said, I watched to completion. It's a fun little show, but don't expect too much out of it.

The title of the show would in english be "How to raise a boring heroine" and that is what the show is about. The protagonist is a hardcore otaku who one day encounters a spectacular girl that inspires him to make a romantic visual novel about her. He enlists the help of his senpai who is a accomplished light novel author to make the story and gets the help of his childhood friend who is a ero-doujin artist for the artwork. Those two just so happen to be two girls who fit moe archetypes perfectly. However the game immeditaly gets into issues when they find out the girl of his encounter is entirely lacking in individual character traits. Now they need to make her become a heroine "worthy" of the game.
The characters is where the show really shines. You will through the making of the game get to know the titular "boring heroine" and who she is. Hopefully by the end of the show you will have learned to appreciate her lack of character, which they do without compromising with it or turning it into a archetype. The other girls in contrast are all full embodiments of the archetypes you have seen many times. Each archetype gets a unique spin in this show though and the interaction with the "boring heroine" makes all of the characters really stand out and shine in a way that is different from the archetype.
The art and sound was nothing exceptional but managed to properly convey and enforce what the show wanted to tell. The artstyle especially was something I thought really fit the show looking really fresh and bright.
This is a harem show but they put a really unique spin on it all making it fun to watch and somewhat unpredictable at times but with the character interactions as the place where it really shines. I would also recommend to watch the special that is available since it serves as a kind of prequel to the show.

A genuinely good rom com school anime which stands out from the others by having a normal (and interesting) female lead.
The story focuses on a group of freinds working together to build the VN of the main characters dreams and the struggles of this challenge whilst balancing there normal (and not so normal) lives. One of the main selling points of this plot are that all the characters but one of the main lead females are *otakus*  this bringing a *normal* into the culture brings some genuinely funny moments out of the story and sets it aside from the average rom com shows we see.

The other characters in the show on the other hand suffer the general tropes even if well executed for the most part and the main lead is usual levels of stupid although not to the point of being painful. I would highly recommend this to fans of school rom com and VN fans although stay clear if school based romcoms heavy in *otaku* puts you off.

*notes music was forgettable although not unpleasant

*Ending was meh defiantly needs a second season for proper closure.

*Some episodes where definitely better than others ranging from amazing to ok.

*The Main female lead (the norm) could have done with more screen time (is most of the reason for the high character score.)

You can watch the first and the last episode and get everything you need to know about this show. Thats all i can really say, other than the jarring 3d animation randomly put into key moments, the art is pretty good but ultimately it falls short in every other way I cannot recommend it.
