Katsudou Shashin
活動写真Believed to be the first animation created in Japan. The short experimental hand-cranked film of only 50 frames features a boy in a sailor suit who writes Katsudou Shashin (Moving Picture) and then removes his hat and gives a salute.

It was good! I think the military aspect ruined it for me. That ending where he takes off his hat was crazy wish they made a season 2

Okay, so first of all, who is this Pillsbury Doughboy looking-ass motherfucker? He sucks, and I don't trust him. Second, what was the budget on this thing? Like ten bucks? There wasn't even any sound on it. Fuck.
They left so much out that was in the manga, I can hardly even make sense of it. The manga talks more about his estranged relationship with his mother, but in the anime we just get the trauma and none of the reasoning. Why am I expected to care about a damaged character when I don't even know how I got to this point, nor where he's going?
Honestly, 3 outta 10 on this one boys. I really liked the premise, but the director clearly has no clue what he's doing and, frankly, has no place in the anime industry. I really liked how the one kid wrote those kanji though.
