After Goro's success in season 2, he again has to change teams, but this time there's someone actively standing in his way. Forced to enter a school that does not even have a baseball team, the typical story of "starting from scratch" does not even apply. "The wheat hasn't even been harvested," would have been more apt.
Story
Typical shounen fare. A story about working hard and teamwork coming together to overcome strong opponents. If you've made it this far into the Major series you have come to be very well acquainted with this particular story. There's no real twists or turns except for a rather one dimensional egomaniacal villian ripped straight from a story of yesteryear.
Animation/Sound
Again, nothing special. (I did find the villain's laugh to be rather funny though)
Characters
Everyone returns but very little of their growth is shown. Goro's still Goro. Komori and the rest of the Mifune East team have progressed in their skill and come back to be opponents in the tournament. Goro's new teammates are cut right out of "Stereotypes of High School Boys." These include: a lazy do-nothing, a company heir, a fat nice guy, a scrawny nerd, and a big headed athlete. Their subsequent personal stories are rather stereotypical also. That said, Fuji's comedic moments are genuinely funny.
Enjoyment
I don't include this in my reviews because I feel that enjoyment is a reflection of the one watching the anime, and the reviewer does not have a place commenting on it. However for this reviewer, the ham handed melodrama of the climax of this season made me want to pull my hair out.
Overall
This season just retreads too much ground to warrant a decent score. By the end of the season you are just thankful that it's over and you can move on to season 4. If you feel like skipping any Major season, this is the one.
