The Ideon: Be Invoked
伝説巨神イデオン 発動篇The epic conclusion to the Ideon saga, featuring what was meant to be the final 5 episodes of the TV series. The Solo Ship and its crew continue their intense battle with the Buff Clan leading to a final battle that will determine the fate of all life in the universe. This movie features the last episode of the TV series Space Runaway Ideon (39), and four more episodes (40-43) that were meant to air on TV, but never did since the show was cancelled. Ideon is Evangelion before Evangelion was Evangelion. A dark, somewhat twisted Mecha anime that doesn't play out like a typical mecha anime. Be Invoked is the finale movie to the Ideon TV series, much like how End of Eva capped off Evangelion. The movie picks up where the last episode should've left off, were it not for budgetary problems, and tells the story of the last fight of the Ideon.
There are, obviously, a few problems with this movie, the animation being the biggest one. It's very 1980s semi-low-budget animation. Very well done for the time, but lacking in a modern context, which may turn some people off. Also, the overall tone of the movie is dark, even compared to the already bleak and dark series that came before it. This may also turn some people off, as there is a lot of death and the ending is... "hopeful", but in the bleakest sense possible. The series also devolves into sheer mindfuckery toward the end, as things get weird.
