GATE（ゲート）自衛隊 彼の地にて、斯く戦えり 第2クールThe second season of the Gate anime adapts the Enryuu-hen and Douran-hen arcs. Some time has passed since humanity drove back the invading forces from what is now known as the "Special Region." In that time, a bustling town has developed within the protective walls of the SDF basecamp, and relations continue to improve favorably. However, some in the Kingdom still do not trust Japan, viewing them as a dangerous entity, bent on invading and taking over. Although Itami and the others are working hard to make peace with the Kingdom, dark forces are secretly at work attempting to force Japan's hand. Gate: Jieitai Kanochi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri Second Season focuses on the ongoing political struggle between Japan and the "Special Region" just beyond the Gate.

The second season of a really great fantasy anime. Continuing on from the first season positively made the season even better with the story and the character development as well.

the biggest disappointment of this anime is that the second opening song isnt as good as the first season's lmao

The story gradually becomes unfocused as this series go. They jump a lot between characters that by the end you kind of remember just bits and pieces of it. There's very little character development. The SDF is basically Tatsuya or Kirito as they exist just to show how great they are with their relatively advanced weapons and skills. What irk me the most is the usage of music. Spoilers.....
In later episodes there're these scenes where the SDF breached the capital and kill a lot of enemy soldiers. Theses scenes are fine considering the context, but they used that cheery military music (like in the intro) in it. It make me feel like I'm watching old propaganda movies, it's quite unpleasant.
