I wanted it to be good so badly, but somehow they managed to disappoint right away with the opening they finished only 4 episodes into the season. It’s as bad as you think a video game adaptation can get and its biggest problem is it being just a straight-forward re-creation of basic most important plot moments with constant off-model animation, sterile colors and kind of okay music. Overall, it just becomes an inferior experience from the games as it lacks absolutely any sense of suspense and tension games will give you, this couldn’t be a worse introduction to the series. Even the seiyuus that should feel just right feel kind of off, it might be just me, but while Aoi Yuuki as Maya is one of the saving graces of this show, she also just doesn’t have that Maya smug. Only time I didn’t regret watching this is actually an original story about young Phoenix, Miles and Larry and, honestly, I would’ve preferred if this adaptation wasn’t constantly restrained by futile attempts at adapting the games, it would’ve been much better if it was a series of slice of life stories with beloved fan favorite Ace Attorney characters.

# Hold it!
Before we begin I must warn you, this review will contain some spoilers for not only the anime but the video game. If you have any objections to that, I suggest you stop reading right now. If you’re still reading this, then let the cross examination begin!

So, starting off with, what did I think of the anime? Truth be told, I think it was a good anime; the story was rather enjoyable, I will admit there were some major differences between some of the cases in the video game and in the anime however, this is not necessarily a bad thing.
A major difference is noted in the “Turnabout Goodbyes” trial, specifically the letter discovered in Yanni Yogi’s safe; Phoenix presents it as evidence in court in the anime, while Phoenix in the video game (stupidly) confronts Von Karma with letter and gets a taste of a 600,000 volt Taser.
The anime introduces a new intake on the backstory of why Wright chose to become a defense attorney, Episode 13; this I must say was rather refreshing and it was nice to see the anime introduce its own uniqueness to the series.
Moving on to the animation, I don’t really have much to say here. The animation wasn’t perfect, but it wasn’t terrible; overall, I would say it was average.
In regards to the voices of the characters, several of the voices were spot on with what I would imagine them to be. Larry, Gumshoe, Pearly Fey, Edgeworth; just to name a few.
# Overall
No, it’s not perfect, far from it; but the anime isn’t downright terrible as some people make it out to be. If you’re planning on watching this, I would recommend going into it with a clear mind; don’t compare it to the video game, judge it on how it presents itself as an anime.
The court finds this anime:

Warning: This is a show that will creep up on you!
When I started watching this, I really didn’t like it and I doubted that I would finish it, simply because I thaught it was sooooo bad. I suffered through the first 7 episodes and then took a long break before coming back. “It can’t possibly be as bad as I remember it being” I thought and began watching again. Immediately I remembered all of the things I originally hated about it and felt like quitting but before I knew it I got caught up in the characters (especially Mayoi, she is so cute :3) and the mysteries and was enjoying myself despite of the, not exactly stellar, animation and over-the-top effects and ridiculous things happening. I ended up almost marathoning it and I would have kept watching if there were more episodes! In the end, I ended up really liking it despite my reservations about the adaptation technique and other (honestly, the first opening sequence is really bad, skip it) (the rest are fine though, enjoyable music).
Watch this show if you like mystery stories and don’t mind mediocre animation and is looking for a show that is easy to follow and characters who are easy to like.

As someone who has never interacted with the Phoenix Wright games, I love this anime! It has its cringe-worthy character moments and completely nonsensical development, but I find the different cases interesting enough to keep me watching every week. Each case is 4-5 episodes, which seems right with the blazing speed of the plot but unfortunately character development suffers for it. For better or worse, I personally like most of the characters as they are. I admit that this is more suitable for a younger audience but it's just delightful and something cheery to brighten up after 91 Days. I especially enjoyed the last case.
Favorite episode: 13, Turnabout Promise (I'm such a sucker for sweet and cute).

This is nothing but a cashgrab. Even Cowboy Bebop has far better animation.Cases were heavily rushed. As someone who has played the game series I could not recommend this. Buy the game for a far better experience.

First of all: Don't.
Rest of all: Leave this page and continue to not watch this show.
It's a faithful adaptation of the first game, but it's presentation is awful and not at all what you would expect from a Phoenix Wright anime.
