World Trigger

ワールドトリガー

When a gate to another world suddenly opens on Earth, Mikado City is invaded by strange creatures known as "Neighbors," malicious beings impervious to traditional weaponry. In response to their arrival, an organization called the Border Defense Agency has been established to combat the Neighbor menace through special weapons called "Triggers." Even though several years have passed after the gate first opened, Neighbors are still a threat and members of Border remain on guard to ensure the safety of the planet. Despite this delicate situation, members-in-training, such as Osamu Mikumo, are not permitted to use their Triggers outside of headquarters. But when the mysterious new student in his class is dragged into a forbidden area by bullies, they are attacked by Neighbors, and Osamu has no choice but to do what he believes is right. Much to his surprise, however, the transfer student Yuuma Kuga makes short work of the aliens, revealing that he is a humanoid Neighbor in disguise. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

Honestly I think we are all spoiled with these “great” anime that are being churned every year. I guess “World Trigger” would be considered very good several years ago but now it barely hits 70% here. It is not average. It is very good, give it a chance.

good stuff

Annoying anime with the slowest development I have ever seen. This is probably due to the fact that out of a ~23 minute episode only 10 minutes is actual episode. There is far too much time spent on previews, as if we're coming back from a long break, and annoying "educational" ending snippets where you're being force-fed useless facts about an empty plot.

I have never dropped an anime so far in but this is a real record setter.

This gotta be one of the most underrated one that i've seen in a while.

Note: this is my first review, and i intend it to be short and precise. Also this is a review on the 1st half, as the anime still goes on.

Story: Begins like your average Sci-Fi, a city in Japan is constantly attacked by extraterrestial forces called 'Neighbors', this creatures are animal like and their objective is to seize, destroy and kidnap humans for their "Trion". Trion is the source of the power that lies within ervery person, the more trion the most powerful can become a person, equivalent to Bleach's reiatsu or Naruto's chakra. There is one organization created for the purpose of protecting the city against this forces, named border, they have squads of agents that neutralize the neighbors everytime there's an attack. The story unfolds when Osamu (the main character) C-Ranked Border agent (the lowest rank, its like a trainee), meets up with Yuma who happens to be a humanoid neighbors, the story unfolds around their friendship and the Yuma's past.

The story its weak on the first episodes, but as it progresses it gets better.

Animation: I've seen Toei Animation's work before and i think they could have done a better job on the animation, the 3D model of the Neighbors, doesn't feel right, and also the battle animation is lacking, its too simplistic.

Sound: Nothing remarkable about the the soundtrack it could have been better, the voice acting for every character is very fitting.

Character: The character design, their personalities, everything about them i'd say it feels pretty average, Osamu is the typical weakling main character, that only thinks about helping the others, but as the story progresses he gets stronger, the same can be said about the other characters, you either like them or hate them.

Enjoyment: Despite all the bad aspects of the anime i find its originality plotwise, and actionwise very likeable, i like how the action scenes develops, and despite the slow start on the plot, i think that its all very well paced.

Overall: It has its highs and lows, but its a good one to watch it will keep you entertained and even wanting more as you progress on the story.

World Trigger seems like the other typical "Extra-terrestrial Invader" plot, however it does have it's strong points. One of the two primary characters, Yuma Kuga is first introduced as just another odd student in a Japanese middle school. Only until episode 2 or so do you figure out that Yuma isn't all what he appears to be, and he ends up revealing that he's a Neighbor (The name given to the extra-terrestrial visitors).

The plot slowly deepens as he meets Osamu Mikumo, who's the second primary character. It turns out Osamu is a Border trainee and decides to hide Yuma until he can decide if he's friendly or not. The two of them end up fighting some attacking Neighbors, only to be rescued by Yuma.

Story: 6/10

The story is rushed, and seems to skip some plot points... but all around it seems decent.

Animation: 6/10

The animation is solid in some points, while lack luster and static in other points.

Sound: 7/10

The sound is pretty solid, no audio issues are noticed, plus the soundtrack isn't bad.

Character: 8/10

The characters are probably the strong point for this anime, I actually really enjoy the interaction between Yuma - Osamu - everyone else. Yuma makes this passive face a majority of time, which I believe helps show that he's still just a kid/ teenager and isn't aggressive.

Enjoyment: 7/10

The anime is enjoyable, it definitely has it's ups and downs. The static chat animation can be somewhat lack luster, while other times the humor is completely on-par.

Overall: 7.5/10

Overall the anime is fun to watch if you like the genre, Osamu seems like the typical sun-glass wearing MC, while Yuma actually seems somewhat creative and fitting in this story.

This anime to me has a quite unique plot, but it is quite similar to some other anime. The story is very good and the characters are easy to get hooked on. The main character is stereotypicaly weak and can't really do s**t in a fight so he is kind of just to provide confer for the watchers.
The art isn't the best iv ever seen but it could be A LOT better.

I will probably write a proper review once the anime is finished. It made a nice impression, but I don't think it will make it into my faves. Worth a watch, anyway!
