Yamada's First Time: B Gata H Kei

B型H系

Yamada, first name withheld, is a 15-year-old girl who has just entered Takizawa High School. Easily considered exceptionally beautiful, she has only one problem with her own body, she thinks her vagina looks weird and is very self-conscious about it. Upon entering high school, her dream was to have casual sex with 100 men but therein lies the problem, she believes an experienced partner will tease her about the way her vagina looks or simply the fact that she's a virgin. She stumbles upon the solution in the form of Kosuda Takashi, a fellow virgin, whom she believes will help ease the transition to more experienced partners. There's only one small problem, Yamada doesn't know anything about sex or the ancient art of seduction, meaning her quest to conquer Kosuda will be a difficult one.

At first the protagonist Yamada, a 15-year old girl seemed like she only wants to achieve that one goal: sleeping with 100 men! The fact, that she didn't even sleep with one single person before doesn't bother her, by the way. But there is more to it. When meeting Takashi, also a virgin, she learns that there is more to it than just having sex with a person. Slowly starting to develope feelings for him, she forgets what she wanted to achieve when first meeting him.

The development of this anime is just sweet and the comedic side of it is on point.

The animation was super sweet and suiting for their characters. Though the beginning was a bit strange, because it really was a very different storyline, I wanted to watch it further and I don't regret it. I didn't really like the ending though, because I feel like, there's an episode missing, but it was okay, so that's only 8 points for the story.

Ecchi ecchi ...! Ecchi! this is how I begin to describe this little funny gem. It's light, it's honest, it's burlesque, it's parodic and that's good! B Gata H Kei are the stories of a girl psychologically tortured by sex. Like what the cliché that boys are obsessed is fundamentally wrong... I ... I take note.

For the record I found very funny. This small Yamada, she never had sex, knows nothing of love, never had feelings for a boy but will completely behave like a queen, an expert of the genre (which completely lose its ways to accomplish it) and it will be this vein that the anime will be well exploited to highlight the comic register that characterizes it. I applaud ... Clap! Clap! This is not the first time that I watch an anime that raises the taboo on the subject of sex, and they are a lot, but he's really well realised and it passes.

Afterwards: this is history, I still have a little searched to see if there was a little plot and it boils down to "I would end up having Kasuda" to remain soft, basically there are none. It's not so bad, it would not at all stuck with the genre of anime - because the anime does not pretend to be really above what it is - let me explain : The chara-design is simple and basic but with this little work of comical transformation of expressions of the characters we adhere completely, avatars of sex gods and their interventions are funny, the secondary characters are not tasks in the background and bring their respectively small and short contributions to history.

Nothing is useless in there, not really, I laughed, I was surprised and charmed by the naivete of this 15 year old girl who goes to conquer the Chinese wall that is controlling her obsessive impulses. Several time I cried with my screen "loose the deal" or "you are both hopeless" but obviously in a benevolent thoughts in the hope that our little obsessed finally able to realize her wish (her dearest dream).

The thing is that we would not offer us on a tray such a story without giving us a serious little romance in the background (I do not know if romance - even small adapts this anime). well it's light but it's pretty well done so I cling "There there's sex but there's also the love behind", it's cute and gallant no ? And it must be said there is, the story is a kind of giant funnel, where the big hand anything to end in something more charming and more simple; an outpouring of awkward feelings that have ripped me "ooooh they are cute," "ooooh don't be so shy" or "undress yourself get it over" ...

Honestly, I love B Gata H Kei so much because I love seeing how Yamada kind of grows throughout the 12 episodes. At first she was all about sex and that was the only thing she wanted to do, and toward the end you actually can tell she has a lot of feelings for Kosuda and wants to have a stable, nice relationship with him. This anime also had me laughing at a lot of moments, overall I loved it :)

A lighthearted, funny ecchi that doesn't take itself too seriously. Plot is rather unorthodox and lends itself to the comedic nature of the series. Characters were enjoyable, if not exactly compelling.

The comedy is where this show really shines. Lewd jokes are abundant and effective, as well as a variety of gags based around the main characters' obliviousness.

6/10. Was decent but not worth a re-watch.

Story:

Yamada, a freshman girl at whatever her high school was called, has a dream . To do what, you ask? To bang one hundred guys. Her problem? She's a shy virgin who can't get her feelings out. To fix this, she's planned to find a cherry boy, or virgin boy, to deflower her. Coincidentally, she finds herself meeting Takashi Kosuda, a shy and awkward cherry boy who is average in all aspects, especially when compared to the lovely Yamada. She sets her eyes on him, swearing she's only getting close to him to allow her to be deflowered. Good luck with that...

First off, this plot, while interesting and hilarious, kind of sucks. Drama seems forced, and with the oddly sporadic pacing, this show has reached new heights of bad delivery.

On the flip side, this show's strength is it's comedy. From it's awkward animations to it's sex jokes, this show should be able to get a laugh from you at some point.

As for the romance, it's annoyingly slow. I have no doubts that you will be constantly shouting "Hurry up and confess," or "Just bang already!" to your viewing device.

Characters:

Yamada - Flirty, spunky, and beautiful, this girl knows what she wants and thinks she knows how to get it. However, no matter how much help her Ero Deity or best friend give her, this girl fails at popping both Kosuda or her cherries. As a person, she's...obnoxious. Doesn't listen, rude, loud, and totally superficial, but oddly interesting. Sadly, she doesn't put out. And just saying, WHAT'S HER FIRST NAME???

Takashi Kosuda - Shy and awkward, but a total high school boy(pervert), this boy has a knack at finding himself in awkward situations. Yamada's target, this cherry boy is bound to go through Hell with the chance of reaching the Nirvana between Yamada's legs. However, he is bland, awkward, dense, and takes way too long to take initiative.

Miharu Takeshita - Yamada's best friend, she finds herself as the voice of reason, who's wise words almost always falls upon deaf ears. Snarky, blunt, and compassionate, as well as the only character who's in an actual serious relationship, which makes her seem much more likable than everyone else.

Kyoka Kanojo - One of Yamada's rivals, this girl is a perfect example of tropes gone wrong. Pristinely perfect, yet a devious bitch, this one has a dark secret she'd rather die than have revealed. As a girl, she's two-faced, high-nosed, and degrading.

Mayu Miyano - Kosuda's childhood friend, this girl holds a one-sided crush towards our cherry boy. This girl kind of fails epicly. Sweet to the point of being irritating, painfully shy (or at least for the audience), and too cowardly to tell Kosuda her feelings. O the bright side, she's a surprisingly sweet character.

Ero Deities - The deities of Yamada, Kosuda, Kanojo, and Miyano's inner desires(mostly sexual), there four are the leaders of comedy in this show. With sex jokes galore, these four make the show.

Side Characters - Painfully forgettable, sans two.

Animation:

The animation for this show is gratingly average. No stand out anything, and the colors didn't seem to contrast well. Furthermore, the backgrounds are boring.

However, the character designs aren't bad, especially Yamada's and Kanojo's.

Sound:

What soundtrack. Seriously, the songs are typical, and the only semi-standout song appeared only in the last three episodes.

As for the dub, it's average?

Personal Enjoyment:

No matter how big of a hole I rip this show, this is one of my favorite ecchi's just due to it's craziness.

Final Scores:

Story: 4.8

Characters: 4.85

Animation: 5.5

Sound: 4

Personal Enjoyment: 7

Overall: 5.23

I'll start by saying what most people have probably said by now; This show tries to be a hentai that's full of censorship, especially in the last episodes.

What people have probably not stated before, and I'll say now, is that this show can DEFINITELY learn a thing or two from the works of Rumiko Takahashi.

I do find it a little intriguing that the gender roles of how "Ecchi" scenarios are typically doled are switched here to bring an unusual twist - the female lead character (Yamada) is the ultra-horny sex fiend trying to get her first sexual experience with a "cherry boy", a rather plain, timid, yet somewhat gold-hearted, Kosuda.

While the action moments are rampant and could get into something steamy, like you would expect from Rumiko's works, they don't have the same impression, often the two main "love interests" would stop the flow due to their awkward feelings generated by their in-experience. They could definitely use some comical methods for their interruptions, instead it often stops because they bumble about or spaz out, and you're left with that feeling of "oh for God's sake, just DO IT."

Really, the biggest problem with this show for me is not the main characters - they are actually the most developed and aesthetically interesting of all the characters. The rest of them however are about as appealing as wood (hence the Character Rating of 3) - even the "F-cup ladies," which should be a red flag to the character designers.

The guy that needs way more work is the swooning, ultra-rich Keichi Kanejo, who's handsome looks captivate just about every damn women on the ground. Yamada turns him down because of his said status, assuming he's over-experienced for her first time. I won't go further than this, but let me just say he's not nearly as conflicting to Kosuda as I thought he should have been.

The strong suit of this show however, is the relationship of Yamada and Kosuda. Halfway, I thought that the romance would be just fake and go nowhere like "Maou Yuusha." But I left with the surprise that things did in fact happen even though it may not satisfy everyone, it was still a good ending for the most part. But the funniest part of the show has to be when Kosuda was talking to his picture of Yamada.

    B Gata H Kei

      • Story
        • The main storyline is a bit weak. It's about a girl called Yamada and her dream to have over 100 sex friends/partners, however there's a problem; she thinks someone who is not also a virgin might laugh at her (Because apparently everyone boy in Japan has had sex at the age of 15..). It then goes into the random encounters that the couple (Yamada and Kousada) have to over come.
      • Animation
        • The animation of B Gata H Kei is nice. Throughout the anime it's nicely done and smooth. It's all nicely done so no complaints here.
      • Sound
        • The voice acting is done exceptionally. Yamada's an incredibly horny 15 year old girl and Kousada's a incompetent boy with outstandingly bad timing, all of this really shows through the voice acting. As always the Japanese voice actor's are incredible and are able to send a lot of emotion through their voices. Bravo.
      • Character
        • Okay, so this is where the anime looses marks. The character development is almost non-existent, with it only really going into Kouada's past a couple of times, but nothing that is plot changing. And then you are just brought to find out how much Yamada wants to lose her virginity. That's pretty much it. There are some other sub-characters, with the only notable ones being; Kyoka and Takeshita.
      • Enjoyment
        • I think the main thing that's funny about this anime is the reversed roles. The girl trying to have sex with the boy is completely different to any anime that you can find which gives it it's own unique twist to the School/Romance Genre. Which for me makes this anime an very enjoyable animation to watch. The ending was okay for some parts and annoying in others, however it was still quite nice.
      • Overall
        • Overall, I think that B Gata H Kei is a much more enjoyable anime than how some of the other review are putting it down to be. There's hardly any Ecchi bits in, apart from the end, and yet a lot of reviews are making it sound like it's another Highschool DxD (Which I love)! The Comedy shown in this anime is nice and unique making it a nice watch. This anime isn't something that you'd really recommend to a first time anime viewer, but it is definitely something that everyone should watch in the end.
        • Sadly, because this anime isn't well known, a second season(That would hopefully round off a couple of edges) doesn't look like it's coming, so read the manga if you want to know what happens next.

      Thanks for reading,

      Wulf.
