ReLIFE

ReLIFE

Dismissed as a hopeless loser by those around him, 27-year-old Arata Kaizaki bounces around from one job to another after quitting his first company. His unremarkable existence takes a sharp turn when he meets Ryou Yoake, a member of the ReLife Research Institute, who offers Arata the opportunity to change his life for the better with the help of a mysterious pill. Taking it without a second thought, Arata awakens the next day to find that his appearance has reverted to that of a 17-year-old. Arata soon learns that he is now the subject of a unique experiment and must attend high school as a transfer student for one year. Though he initially believes it will be a cinch due to his superior life experience, Arata is proven horribly wrong on his first day: he flunks all his tests, is completely out of shape, and can't keep up with the new school policies that have cropped up in the last 10 years. Furthermore, Ryou has been assigned to observe him, bringing Arata endless annoyance. ReLIFE follows Arata's struggle to adjust to his hectic new lifestyle and avoid repeating his past mistakes, all while slowly discovering more about his fellow classmates. A really, good anime. The chance to relive a part of your life. The ending had a twist to it between subjects 1 and 2. Let the next season be better.

The plot, at first, gives you that ERASED vibe, or Boku dake ga Inai Machi. Because.. well.. ERASED is just the closest thing to describe this anime. The thing about the butterfly effect and such. Well, the thing is that, ERASED is just that dark anime and ReLIFE is like, the comedy version of it. So, it's about this jobless dude with a really dark past (regarding his past job) named Kaizaki Arata (he's 27 years old). So, this dude named Yoake just gave him pills and talked about this ReLIFE experiment going on... blah blah blah and there, a 27-year-old pedophile going on a highschool as a third year (please don't take the pedo joke seriously). Plot aside, the animation is just straight out from 2011. In my opinion, the manga art is much more beautiful (Yes, I've read it.). The OP is just cheesy but... the ending of the OP is just.. depressing.. Most of the EDs are straight out cheesy and the one that stood out for me is Natsumatsuri by Whiteberry (in episode 12). The character development is just... well... the MC is not that type of person to have a harem so... yeah...... The enjoyment is just... so-so because first, this anime literally released all of its episode in one day whereas I wanted to enjoy it weekly. Second, most of the parts were hilarious. So, yeah.

ReLife is a story about regrets. It teachers the viewer to never take any moment for granted and to truly live life and appreciate as much as you can.

It's a beautiful anime both in it's visuals and writing. Sure, it has it's shares of cliche's but they are so minimal and cleverly disguised that it's not even a problem.

And the comedy is straight hilarious. I burst out laughing at least once every episode. The comedy is cleverly done in both the writing and in the visual cues.

In the end, it's just a brilliant must watch for Rom Com lovers and all that fall in between. A beautifully written story that highlights some important life lessons while creating an exciting and lovable tale. It's a textbook example of why we love anime and what we have to gain from the lessons it can teach us.

I feel like this anime is going to be super underrated. It's not flashy and it doesn't seem special at first but they've cleverly disguised life lessons in the form of a simple highschool romance.  I think a lot of people will resonate with the characters and situations.

It has a pretty important theme of self-healing, personal growth and mental health, whilst still being uplifting, and highly enjoyable to watch.

It has a certain authenticity which I feel a lot of newly released animes are lacking recently. It really draws you in with honest characters and complex relationships. Definitely a new twist on the whole highschool drama plot. I enjoyed it a lot. I just wish it were longer.

I thoroughly enjoyed watching ReLife and would recommend it to almost anyone. It is funny, well animated and engaging.

The story follows Kaizaki Arata- a 27 year old, unemployed man who cannot find a job after quitting his first one after only 3 months. Unable to proceed and with his family cutting him off- a mysterious man appears and offers to pay his expenses and potentially give him a job if he participates in a year long experiment- the ReLife project. This reverts Arata back to the appearance of a 17 year old high school student and he now must live as a student for on year- communicating with his fellow students and discovering new things about himself.

I find the story refreshing and interesting- particularly as I have not really read the manga in any great detail as of yet. The story progresses fairly quickly and I believe that the pacing is perfect- allowing us to see the change occurring in Arata as he mingles and communicates with new people and uses his adult perspective to assist with their problems. The characters themselves are incredibly endearing and I found myself getting attached to most of them-  my personal favorite being the completely oblivious yet hilarious Hishiro.

ReLife is hilarious. I regularly found myself laughing out loud at the lives of Arata and co. but it mixes this humor with some heavier- more thought provoking story lines which can be incredibly hard to pull of but it has been done expertly. I found the emotional, less funny scenes to be just as enjoyable as the over the top hilarious ones.

However, the story begins to stagnate slightly around episodes 10-12, with the story not progressing much and, in my opinion too much focus on an almost forced, false drama. However, even these episodes had their moments and do not really put much of a damper on the series as a whole.

On a different note, I very much enjoyed the OP for ReLife and found myself listening to it again and again instead of just skipping through. I thought the ED's were extremely interesting, with the song changing each time- none of them particularly memorable but none of them bad either. I do not know a great deal about voice acting so I can merely say that I believe all the voices fit the characters well and couldn't really find anything to pick up on. I found that the art style fits the anime perfectly and I believe that it fits the style and genre perfectly. The style that Episode 07 is done in is worth a particular mention.

The ending of the anime may leave some disappointed but as it is an ongoing series I think it is far better to leave it this way ( with the potential of a second season/movie/ova's) instead of giving it an anime original ending that leaves a bad taste in the mouth (Kuma Miko, I am looking at you). The anime does leave you wanting more and I will be picking up the manga ASAP to satisfy my Relife cravings.

Overall, I would highly recommend ReLife to anyone in need of a laugh and who, well just wants to find a simple, enjoyable story to watch.

ReLife is a manga I fell in love with a few months ago, and I can confidently say the anime adaptation did not dissappoint (almost). While the majority of it is an incredibly faithful adaptation keeping the comedy, charm, feels and even to a certain degree intrigue from the manga. However, it still manages to fall short of the manga in a few areas. Let's start with well, the beginning.

The opening two episodes is the biggest downfall of the show (imo). They tried to fit around 4-5 episodes in two and it really dragged the series down. The pacing was completely out of wack at the beginning which may leave some people with not the best first impression of the show. Though I gotta be honest, this isn't only the anime's fault. The intro chapters of ReLife is most certainly the worst part of the series. It's not two engaging and the comedy is a lot more cringey than the rest of the series. This makes almost what the anime did a good thing as it fast forwarded throughout the introductions so we could faster get into the meat of the series. Though I do think they could've handled it a lot better as the opening chapters aren't bad just not as good. But once you get past the first couple of episodes you're in for a ride that's very good and extremely faithful to the source-material. It's the kind of show where, before you realize it, you've fallen in love with the characters (with maybe the exeptions of Honoka's friends). It's just a kind of charm they have to pull you in. Add to that a very funny comedic side that had me laughing out loud on multiple occations along with some heavy scenes that really tug at you heartstrings and you got a recipe for success. Though once again there's something the anime lacked in, which is the intrigue.

I won't spoil anything but there is a mystery(esc) part of series that's really intriguing in the manga. While I did find the anime to be funnier in exchange, the mystery was a big reason as to why I got so hooked on the series.. However, this is made a lot more obvious in the anime. Sure, when I look back it wasn't THAT hard to figure out but it was far from shoved into your face. But while the anime tries to keep that it give the audience more hints which makes it a lot more obvious. Though a big reason some twist were obvious was the existance of the opening. Speaking of which I rather liked the OP, it wasn't anything special but I enjoyed watching it each episode (unlike the ED). The ED was very "meh". Even though it changed music it never held my intrest to watch it rather than hitting "next episode" which is rather dissappointing. Speaking overrall on the visuals of the show I would say they looked pretty alright. The manga doesn't have the easiest artstyle to adapt which made me very suprised how good it turned out for the anime (exept for the beginning). It's nothing special but it definitely looks distinct. When it comes to the music it was very mixed. The ost had a lot of piano that most of the time fit but not always when they tried to use it, it wasn't something special either but it was good enough (I guess). When it comes the the acting it was solid. Nothing really great and nothing really bad, exept for Onoya who got a rocky start but got better as the show progressed. This I think leads us to the ending.

I won't go into detail (beacuse this is spoiler free) but the ending leaves me conflicted. Part of me really liked where they got to and really likes that non-manga readers get to see that. Another part of me sees a very good place to end the show a bit earlier which could have smoothened the rocky start. However, this also leads me back to the beginning where I'm also conflicted whether they made the right call or not. I won't deny though that what they made was pretty great.

Overrall, ReLife is really good. If you go in wanting a SoL rom-com it will deliver in spades. It's funny, charming and somewhat intriguing while delivering your daily dose of feels. However there are somethings I'm conflicted about it did create a very enjoyable show in the end. The person I wouldn't recommend this to is the one looking for the sci-fi. Yes, the show does have a sci-fi element but it's far from the focus of the show and these kind of people may very well find themselves bored. There is more of this element in the manga but only slightly and far from enough for a person entering the series witch such desires.
