Occult Academy
世紀末オカルト学院The story revolves around Maya, the daughter of the former Headmaster of Waldstein Academy, and a time traveling agent Fumiaki Uchida. In the year 2012, the world had been invaded by aliens and time travelers were sent back to the year 1999 in order to find and destroy the Nostradamus Key, which Nostradamus Prophecy foretold as what would bring about the apocalypse. The series then turns to the year 1999, where Maya returns to the Academy with the intention of destroying the Academy by superseding her late father's position as the principal. Her plan was interrupted when she meets Fumiaki and learns of the forthcoming destruction. Despite being distrusting towards Fumiaki, they form a pact to look for the Nostradamus Key. In order to find the Nostradamus Key, time agents were provided with specially created cell phones. When a user finds an object of interest, by thinking of destroying it and taking a photo, and if the resulting image is that of a peaceful world, then the subject is the Nostradamus Key. Conversely, if the subject is not the Nostradamus Key, then the photo displays destruction. By using the phone, Maya and Fumiaki investigates occult occurrences as they occur in the town. This is the first anime I have been disappointed with.
The storyline was boring with a really obvious ending and twists throughout.
The animation at times was really quite bad as well, especially on close ups, faces would become distorted and look, just wrong. the redeeming feature of this anime is the score. the opening and ending credits are both very good songs, and any music used throughout is quite nice and matches the tone of what's on screen.
The characters are SO un-likable. I just found myself not caring at all about what happened to them and the underlying love story in the background is so poor it just doesn't fit.
Just a really bad anime with good music.

You ever just hunker down in you basement and think, maybe. Just maybe, it would have been cool if they made an anime adaption of Scooby Doo that has a sexy female lead, time travelers, magic, and aliens?
"Seikimatsu Occult Gakuin" or "Occult Academy" if you went the obvious plebian route and watched on on Crunchyroll like I did is your typical but no so typical Sci-fi Supernatural anime with an atypical art-style and strange story, with lots of emotion. No doubt you'll like it, and there is certain no doubt that you'll say "What...?" a good amount of times during the show.
I recommend it. I give it a solid 10.2/400% on a scale of A to XV.

- Waldstein Academy is a school that focuses mainly on paranormal discipline, resulting in it being known as Occult Academy. Our female protagonist Maye Kumashiro comes back to this institution to attend her father’s funeral. While at the academy she eventually in counters Fumiaki Uchida, who is a time agent sent from the future to the year 1999 to prevent the destruction of the world and other life forms from invading their world.
- The story was pretty interesting. I mean the idea of saving the world from aliens and mass destruction wasn't really original, but it did serve to be an entertaining idea at the very least. The main protagonist Fumiaki Uchida was sent back in time to stop the apocalypse from occurring by destroying something called the Nostradamus key. With the unexpected help from May Kumashiro they team up to find this key and destroy it. I also should mention that the notion of the 2012 prophecy was included in the story of this anime.
- The characters of this anime are what really kept me watching. All of the characters fulfilled their comedic roles and had me laughing at few points. Two of the supporting characters named Jk and Smile were a really an interesting duo and had a decent amount of screen time for me to like them. The 2 main characters Maye Kumashiro the Tsundere and Fumiaki Uchida the wimpy male protagonist were for the most part very much likable and had some memorable moments with each other near the last few episodes of the series. The rest of the characters weren't really that important to be worth mentioning except for one named Nakagawa Mikaze who was pretty annoying throughout the entire anime. But in the end all of the supporting characters did have their fair share of screen time.
- Occult Academy aired on July 6th 2010 and was produced by Aniplex, animated by A-1 Pictures. The animation was fairly average and wasn't really all that impressive if you ask me. The only time the animation did go above average was in a few scenes during the last episode, but other than that, the animation wasn't all that special. This definitely wasn't A-Pictures finest works in terms of animation, considering the fact that they have done better jobs with previous projects such as Black Butler and Fairy Tail.
- Putting all that aside, let me just say a few words about the soundtrack. To be honest The soundtrack wasn't really all that memorable and special to me, but the opening song of this anime was something to admire. (really didn't have much to say about the soundtrack)
- To conclude this somewhat short review, Occult Academy was enjoyable, it had its funny, serious, and sad moments. I wouldn't really recommend for you to go out of your way to watch this anime, but I would recommend watching it if you are looking for a funny supernatural anime with some school, Sci-fi, and mystery elements.
