The Silver Guardian

銀の墓守り〈ガーディアン〉

Lu Shuiyin (Riku Suigin in Japanese) is a master of gaming, a skill only known to his classmate Lu Lian (Riku Lin in Japanese). One day, Shuiyin receives a device from Lu Lian for a tomb raiding online game. While Shuiyin is excited to receive the device, Lian is suddenly kidnapped. Shuiyin touches the device that was left behind, pulling him inside the game and trapping him there. What is the imaginary world inside the device? What will Shuiyin find there? It is a world where two groups of people fight over the power of the gods, which originates from the tomb the mother goddess Pangu (Bango in Japanese). The two groups are the tomb raiders and the tomb protectors. The device Shuiyin received from Lian is called the Monolith, and it allows a normal gamer to go near the tomb. The tomb raiding group plans its attack by recruiting common people in the name of gaming. Shuiyin, as the final tomb protector, must fight against the raiders in order to save Lian. Do yourself a favor and read the manhua instead.

The OP and ED are good (the ED mostly for the song), as is the overall animation quality, but the plot was completely lost in this adaptation.

Events that end up fundamental for character relationships are either replaced with alternate events with different characters or just don’t happen at all. and all of the setup for the actual plot is missing, as is the backstory for the main character.

Then there are continuity errors that are introduced just in this adaptation, such as a flash back to a year prior with characters talking about playing a game that, according to the series itself, has only been out for maybe a week at most.

The best thing I can say about this series is that the first couple of episodes interested me enough to inspire me to find the manhua, but once I did the changes to the pacing and the tiny scraps of plot in the adaptation caused me to lose most of my enjoyment of this adaptation.

Hopefully the series will get a proper adaptation someday.
