There was a LOT of fanservice, but the characters and fighting scenes were great... + it had a little bit of ecchi, which makes any anime better. :d The story was not in that big role, the fanservice takes a big place in the whole series, so don't watch it if your looking for a serious anime.

I thought it was going to be about how the girls interact with the new non-gun teacher or him adjusting to his new situation, but he doesn't really show up much after the first episode. I dropped it halfway through since it wasn't really about what I thought it was supposed to be about.

Upotte!! isn't a bad anime. I wish I could like it more though. When it first starts, its a very enjoyable anime and it gives some story and statistics about the girls/guns and for that I love it. Upotte is short and you'll be glad that it is because about half way in its like the writer took a whole different direction with the anime. As the anime progresses a lot of yuri starts between 4 of the girls and it just feels like its misplaced, almost like the writer just did it for no real reason besides fan service. It just felt like that writer stopped caring about the anime. I would have liked to see more structure in the later episodes like it had when it first began.

There are 3 schools in standard format. Elementary, Middle, and High school. Sub machine guns go to elementary, assault rifles go to middle, and battle rifles/sniper rifles go to high school. Basically smallest caliber bullets to largest. I would have loved to see more of the other 2 schools as the anime mainly focuses on the assault rifles in middle school.

I would say watch it once and leave it at that. Read on if you don't care about the ending.

The last 2 episodes is a huge shoot out between them (FNC, SIG 550, M16A4, and L85A1) and the Russians (dozen or so AK47s, SAIGAS, and a TYPE 86s). These last 2 episodes are considerably better then 5-8. Yeah its only 4 episodes but considering its only 10 episodes long that is a huge chunk. 5-8 just felt like the writer was taking time off and gave the pen to someone else and said "make filler". I was not very impressed.

Story: Four girls from Seishou Academy work together to shot for their goals... literally, as they are all anthropomorphic guns trained to be battle rifles and be considered useful. However things might not be so easy as they first thought, but that won't stop them from trying though.

Pros: Music is really good and it fits the show [most of the time, but we'll get to that later], the character designs are cute as opposed to the manga's, and the animation's fluid and nice. Sig is a pretty decent character; she's Swiss SIG SG 550 assault rifle and is a serious top notch student who likes to take things seriously. Elle is also a good character' she is a British L85A1 assault rifle. The girl is shy, clumsy, and has a habit of breaking but her friends are for the most part always there for her whenever something bad happens (again talking about that later).

Also, I gotta give props to the those who've given us the facts about all the guns that the girls are, and its actually quite educational and wonderful to know about them :)

Cons: The story. It's stupid, moving on. Normally I have no problem with fan service but here it is unnecessary and it gets distracting at times especially knowing that these girls are from middle school/class sniper rifle(?). The ending which I will not spoil is one of the most infuriating ones I've ever seen in my entire life. Not worth sitting through the really bad stuff in this. Speaking of which...

Aside from Elle and Sig, the characters are all under developed and uninteresting... as well as mean. Funco, the main lead is a Belgian FN FNC, and she's boring and dull- Maud's pet rock Boulder has more personality than her (they tried to mix in the tsundere and dandere... or whatever it means to be nice, but they failed spectacularly).

Her love interest (yes, she has one) is a teacher, whom I forgot his name, has less personality and should not be considered a 'main character' since he rarely shows up in the show at all.

And then we have Ichiroku... where do I begin with that travesty of a character? I hate her.

Ichiroku is an American M16A4 assault rifle and is supposed to be energetic and kind and it shows in the first few episodes... but in the second half of the show suddenly she acts like a stone cold jerk to Elle for NO reason whatsoever and even calls her a dud for it making her run off and cry. And yeah, it literally comes out of nowhere. She spends the next few episodes talking about just that and how she doesn't need a dud like her on her team until the others apologize and get Elle involved in a tournament to save the school and Ichiroku seems to act like she never even told her that and they make up for some reason... she never even apologizes!!! REALLY!? Yeah now you know why I hate her to death. The others aren't better.

Overall: I honestly cannot recommend this, some episodes are ok, but most of the show did not focus on the genre it was supposed to be: a comedy slice of life with some action. This was just pure action with fan service mixed in with some crappy drama. It doesn't work and I hope this show never gets a full season. Do not watch it please and stick with Girls Und Panzer, Sound Of The Skies, or Strike Witches instead~
