Super Mario Brothers: Great Mission to Rescue Princess Peach
スーパーマリオブラザーズ ピーチ姫救出大作戦!In the film, Mario and Luigi are the owners of a grocery store. One night, Mario was engrossed in his Famicom game. Suddenly, the picture goes out and Princess Peach appears on the TV screen crying for help from the enemies attacking her and jumps out of the TV. Mario falls in love with her and vows to protect her. Soon after, Koopa appears on the TV screen and starts to come out of the TV. He grabs Princess Peach and takes her into the TV. Mario then discovers a small brooch that Peach left on the floor. The next day, the brooch that Peach dropped becomes a matter of concern for Mario. Luigi immediately notices the brooch and regards it as the "Visionary Jewel from the Country of Treasure". Soon, Kibidango, a small dog-like being, wanders into the store and notices that Mario has Peach's brooch. He takes it away from Mario, enraging him, thus beginning his (and Luigi's) chase with Kibidango into the Mushroom Kingdom. (Source: Wikipedia)

Story:
It's a Mario story. Peach is captured, Mario and Luigi go rescue her, Bowser is defeated, and everyone moves on in an hour! It doesn't over stay it's welcome, but the movie's plot is as stale as an three year old bagel. But it doesn't stop there. It adds in a "prophecy" about how Mario is the only one who can save to poor princess. It's both unnecessary and cliche.
Animation:
It was the 80s. All 80s anime looks the same. It's cheap, but you know what? This movie seems to have introduced a bunch of things into the Super Mario universe. See the above video for a proper list.
Sound:
The original music is the worst. Everything else is ripped from Super Mario Bros.
Character:
Mario's a hopelss romantic. Bowser is the Ice King. Peach is stupid. Luigi is in it only for himself. The Mushroom Mystic is pointless. The dog is a cock block... Best part of the whole movie, to be honest! Kind wish the whole story was more character driven than it is.
Enjoyment:
As a fan of Mario, I enjoyed this as an hour away from what I was doing. It's not worth much more than that. If you like Mario, you probably will enjoy this. It won't change your mind if you're on the fence or hate the franchise. I thought it was worth the hour, but not the $200 I'd have to spend for a genuine copy of the VHS, especially since there's no official international release.
