Already confused with the current situation, Mikado is further surprised to see that his friend and fellow Raira Academy student Anri Sonohara is there as well. As the two decide to take a seat together, a few members of the group begin reminiscing over events from days past: Mikado recalls an adventure from his childhood with Masaomi Kida, Anri explains how she came to be friends with Mika Harima, and Shizuo Heiwajima tells of his first meeting with Tom Tanaka. Great special that goes more into Mika’s past and really gives you more time to just sit down with the characters and discover more about them, their relationships, etc. This is one of my favorite specials as it really strengths Izaya’s character, showing a kinder side of them that’s just lonely and wants compassion. I see a lot of people yelling at Izaya fans saying there really is no reason to like him and they only enjoy his character for his looks. Yes I’ll admit there are a lot of those types of fans, but, some like me like him because he’s generally an interesting character. Also a lot of people claim people saying Izaya has a good side are just crazy fan girls with ridiculous hopes and wishes. However, some of us just know his type of character better or have payed attention to the clues the show throws at us. Because of this, I like that the writers sat down and really went deeper into his character since this seemed like an issue for some viewers (especially people I mentioned before. This special shows he does have a good side in an obvious way all viewers are bound to notice.) He eats hot pot all by himself while the other characters all gather together for a hot pot party, leaving him out on the fun. We see some interesting interactions between him and Namie, him being rather nice and showing he is thankful for everything she does for him, though she does not return the compassion and would rather have nothing to do with him. Great special I advise you to watch if you want to know more about the characters, and just have a time to see them not in a time of panic for once.
