ChäoS;HEAd

カオスヘッド

Shibuya, Japan, 2008. Takumi Nishijou, a high school student at the Private Suimei Academy, one day hears about the 'New Gen' murders that have been occurring around the city. Although dismissing the subject because it doesn't involve him, Takumi begins to experience strange mishaps around him, from a horrific picture he received while on his PC, to a mysterious Pink-Haired girl standing at a murder scene. From there on Takumi struggles to cope with the events unfolding around him, and is soon unaware of what is real or a delusion. As his fate opens up before him, the perpetrator behind the 'New Gen' events attempts to find him, leading him into a world where nothing is as it seems.

I decided to watch this anime as it is set in the same universe as Steins;Gate, and I love Steins;Gate. My conclusion: THIS DOES NOT DESERVE TO EXIST IN THE SAME UNIVERSE AS STEINS;GATE.  It started out ok with a whole thing about "oh if the mind interprets this then you will be physically affected by it" which was interesting but soon it just became "lol we can do whatever we want using our minds", at which point it just got worse and worse. The only thing I liked was Todd Haberkorn as the protagonists' voice actor, but that's insignificant compared to how simply bad I found this series.  If you're really running out of things to watch then you could give this a try. But otherwise save yourself some anime time and go watch Steins;Gate or Owari no Seraph or something.  Basically, I was hoping this to be good as it was made by the same guys as Steins;Gate, but in the end, it's barely mediocre.

Story

This anime's story is where half of its problems lie. This is a perfect example of a good premise with fucked up execution. In the beginning I thought Chaos;Head was gonna be awesome. Then halfway through I felt like it was tripping over itself. Towards the end it's just sloppily tying up loose ends.

Animation

Won't go too in-depth with this, Animation during fight scenes were decent, but during some scenes it was pretty derpy.

Sound

Soundtrack was pretty good. One of the best openings I've ever heard.

Character

So shitty I can't even describe. Takumi just made me want to throw my laptop.

Enjoyment

I sort of kinda still like this.

Friend saw this and threw himself over a building. Still lives in my mind. In an asylum. 12/10

Chaos;Head wrinkled my brain.
The premise of Chaos;Head is unique and fascinating, but wasn't executed very well. Throughout the first half, I was very confused about what the hell was going on, and it wasn't explained in way simple enough for my brain to process. However, I figured it out. Chaos;Head is about the power to turn delusions into reality. It sounds cool, (and trust me, it is), but the story turned out "meh." It could have been much better, but it was very predictable. (That can somewhat be accredited to the opening). The characters are hardly deep or well-developed, and mostly follow a bunch of harem stereotypes. The main character is an otaku with poor social skills who somehow attracts a group of girls with personalities ranging from hyper and joyful to quiet and mysterious. This has been done over and over again, and while I have no problem with harems, (I do like me some reverse harems), they have become bland and their concepts have been overdone.

The art in Chaos;Head, while not the best, has nice vivid colors, something that is always welcome. The OST is mostly forgettable and average, but there is a band in the anime that has some pretty good music.

Last minute thought; the Di-swords are awesome.

My thoughts on Chäos;HEAd,
The anime based on the visual novel of the same name.

The story was confusing. It didn't really know what it wanted to be. It had so many good options, and instead of choosing one and perfecting it, it just tried to do everything at a mediocre level. Basically the writers had too much on their plates. Despite all of the random unneeded plot events that happened, the over all story arc was silly decent.

The animation was amazing. All of the characters where completely distinct looking from each other and the scenery was really fitting. With the exception of a few weird looking moments it was all really good, not to lazy, and not hard on the eyes with realism.

The songs within the series were never too memorable with the exception of two, one good and one bad. There is one nice track the plays during the finally battle (If you could call it that). It was very energy and hope filling, excellent for the main characters triumph. But the ending song was just horrible. It was not fitting with series at all and was sadly the song that stuck in my head the most.

Some characters were great whilst others were lacking. For a harem anime, it's really good that all of the female characters had there own various personalities. However, there were scenes with very predictable dialogue from certain characters, but it wasn't something that'd happen to commonly. The main character was great, he is very relatable for the average anime watcher, which I found very amusing. In a funny/sad way, he's as confused about the story as you are for the most of it.

I can't say I didn't enjoy this anime for it's whole, but I wouldn't consider it one of my favourites. It's definitely got it's flaws but it was fun in the end. I won't recommend or not recommend this anime to anybody, because it's not super amazing, and it's not bad, but I can say this: don't watch this if you just want something like Steins;Gate. Although they take place in the same universe( different time lines), they are completely different anime, in both story and genre.

I was highly disappointed in this show. In more ways than one this show tries to be that "break out anime of the season". It constantly tried to push the boundaries of anime with its sense of mystery, action, and convoluted plot and story. However, this anime absolutely dug its own grave doing that.As far as characters go, this probably had some of the worst characters I have ever seen in my entire life. The main character, to put bluntly, is a winy little bitch. That's the only thing he brings to the table. Yet these characters are drawn to him somehow. Incredibly unlikable. The plot was hard to follow. I had to pause frequently and go back to understand what the hell they were talking about. The whole di-sword thing and using the imagination gave me an incredible headache. This is one of the first anime I would highly not recommend. I could not find one enjoyable aspect about this show. I thought 12 episodes wouldn't be too bad. Dear God it was.

ChäoS;HEAd is not the most groundbreaking anime, nor is it too unpredictable. The true beauty in the anime lies in the fact that you are immersed in a world that the characters themselves know is fabricated. Some of the more brilliant moments in the anime are not when the characters are struggling against [insert evil corporation], but instead when they realize and admit that their situations are obscure and that these situations are cliched. In this way, even though a lot of the elements of ChäoS;HEAd seem recycled, the fact that the main character, Taku, is a figure-collecting NEET justifies this (for even more reasons than just because the situation calls for it).Story:Beginning with scenes from what seems like a semi-insane NEET holed up in his hovel Welcome to the NHK style, the story progresses quickly and adequately. Taku struggles with inner strife, and encounters many oddities and mysteries within Shibuya. The story is intriguing and keeps the viewer watching.Art:Art is up to par from what would be expected from any studio these days. Some of the effects on the weapons are particularly good.Sound:Sound is usually not something I pay very close attention to in an anime. I don't recall anything particularly interesting other than a couple of inserts when the eerie Japanese folk song "Sakura" is echoed. It took me a minute to recall what song was being played, and I was happy with the inclusion of it.Character:Character development is likely the biggest downfall of this anime. Taku is fairly well developed, but his harem of women follows well-defined stereotypes for characters: cute sister, contemplative quiet girl, semi-yandere, childhood friend/girlfriend, warrior chick. Some of them fall out of their bounds a bit, but not to any extreme level.Overall, I really enjoyed this anime. I actually finished it in one sitting, which hardly ever happens for me. I hope you found this useful, and that from this review you can decide whether ChäoS;HEAd is relevant to your interests.
