Parasyte -the maxim-

寄生獣 セイの格率

All of a sudden, they arrived: parasitic aliens that descended upon Earth and quickly infiltrated humanity by burrowing into the brains of vulnerable targets. These insatiable beings acquire full control of their host and are able to morph into a variety of forms in order to feed on unsuspecting prey. Sixteen-year-old high school student Shinichi Izumi falls victim to one of these parasites, but it fails to take over his brain, ending up in his right hand instead. Unable to relocate, the parasite, now named Migi, has no choice but to rely on Shinichi in order to stay alive. Thus, the pair is forced into an uneasy coexistence and must defend themselves from hostile parasites that hope to eradicate this new threat to their species. (Source: MAL Rewrite)

This is my favorite anime, every episode makes you want more and more. I really reccomend this anime for horror and Scifi fans :D

Amusing despite the series actually getting very creepy and grotesque visually later. And the ultimate ending was spun in a sort of epilogue type of narrative that gave it a calm closure.

Up To Episode 6

Written November 15 , 2014.

Not to bash on any of the other reviews for this show but they kind of don't help so let me give it a try.

Story :

The Story really isn't anything new but the manga is 20 years old so there's that anyway it's still pretty fucking good , parasites ( Tiny little fuckers) come falling down from the sky and take over some peoples bodies in Japan . One of them ( Migi) can't take full control of our protagonist but instead serves as his arm and guide on how to survive from the others that want to kill him. The amount of people they control isn't very high but enough so that you can sense that humanity is pretty much in danger. Plus It's really interesting to see how some of them try to adapt and fit in , in our society. The main goal up to episode 6 is that our protagonist wants to exterminate them and with very good reason just trust me on this one. The most important thing and the best aspect of the series though is it's execution of the plot all of this might not sound all that hype worthy or interesting to you but trust me the series does all of this and many things more in a way that keeps you hooked and interested throughout.

Characters :

Our protagonist up until now has been pretty spineless but not at the level that would turn you off , in a way it makes the series more realistic , because he is dealing with a lot of shit and nobody in his situation would be mentally stable. He does seem to be changing and those early signs of character development are present. Migi he's faithful little companion doesn't give a shit about the human race and just wants him to live , so he can also live , but he is rather interesting, entertaining and understanding of our protagonist. There are some love interests shown but they are not so important right now protag is dealing with shit so story isn't focusing on that too much. The parasites that have taken over aren't too fleshed out just yet , basically we just eat humans to survive and that's it no hard feelings bruh , however there are some more  interesting ones for example one goes batshit crazy and attacks protag's school for the lulz. There is this other one that tried to blend in with our society and her intellectual prowess just shows. Last but not least his parents , which are really nice and are very well developed for the amount of screen time they get nothing else is worth mentioning.

Sound :

Do you like Dubstep ?

If the answer is yes you will fucking love this OST if not you will hate it it's as simple as that. Sometimes it can get kind of akward when they play random dubstep on some less than appropriate scenes which kind of breaks the mood for some or so I've been told but yeah I like dubstep so I've enjoyed it's use so far.

The voice actors are top notch they express emotion very well and are very pleasant to listen to no complaints here.

Animation :

This is Madhouse so granted the animation is good they haven't taken any visible shortcuts. The animation style is one which I can enjoy and the animation itself is consistent throughout the first 6 episodes.

If this poorly written review didn't convince you  just take my word on it the series is amazing and will leave you wanting more every week. I feel it has the potential to enter my top 5 Anime of all time which currently are : FMAB , DN , NGE , Bebop and Steins;Gate so yeah it's that good , entertaining and flawless up until now.

I will probably delete this piece of shit review and write a decent one which does the series justice when it finishes airing until then sayonara.

I was poking around randomly for horror anime to watch, and this caught my eye. When I first read the description, I thought it would be stupid–a guy gets a parasite for a right arm, and then what? Okay. But then I started watching it.

I was surprised and refreshed by Shinichi. While he is a typical "hero" in many ways, he is also different. He is completely forced into this; it doesn't run in his family, it's not part of an underworld society, his experience is new.

Some of the jokes are rather juvenile, but it is a nice contrast to the incredibly gory material. Also, I really like the moral questions brought into view. The parasites, who are completely logical and only looking out for their own well-being, and the contrast to Shinichi–a previously completely normal student.

I've now watched up to episode 15, and I keep loving it. I've also read the manga, and I think it tracks nicely so far. I keep admiring the pictures and the characters. These characters are all real people; they're not flat like some anime characters are. And I've especially enjoyed seeing Shinichi's development. He's gone through a number of transformations, but they're all plausible in a crazy sort of way, and that's great.

This anime is uncensored. That is how you know it is good.
A sci-fi that is very realistic.

I had a small hope that the anime adaptation would succeed for a 20 year old manga and i was wrong. Parasyte - the maxim - has a more modern look and soo far the story and voice acting are great. I cant wait to see the final conclusion of the series.

hilpert.stuart - 2014-10-23 14:42:08

Episodes watched: 3

This is not a horror whatsoever. I mean it seems too... Sanitized. Too clean. Even though the concept means lots of transforming flesh. And so far it sucks, in my mind.

Some kind of an organism merges with a guy's arm (it was aiming for the head). It can transform freely and can even talk. And there are other organisms like it out there, who... Eat humans (if they merged with a human). And so far that is it.

Guy's character seems inconsistent. He is afraid, most of the time, but sometimes he feels a bit "out there", like he can't be bothered with all this. They introduced a hot (butterface though) teacher who is infected by that organism in 3rd episode and it feels like she can change the tide quite a bit, so I am continuing to watch this for now.

The art is good, though. Perhaps too god, which does make it less horror-like. I mean, when I saw old Span animation (Todd McFarlane's Spawn I mean) or recent Tokyo Ghoul or even some Venom (from Marvel Comics)  (even back in 90s) those felt... I do not know... Menacing? All three are "fluid", but yet have something rough about them. Like you see that there is danger. That thing will be killed and limbs will fly if you make a wrong move. Here... Just some stretched flesh. It can scare you as much as some foreskin can.

4/10 so far. Will see what 4th episode will show with the teacher and then decide if it's worth continuing.
