Mazinkaiser SKL

マジンカイザー SKL

Prior to the events of the anime, three factions—the Garan Army, the Kiba Army, and the Aira Army, battle for total dominance of Machine Island. The island is basically a prison, isolated from the rest of the world. The island contains a vast amount of resources, allowing the three factions to create an infinite supply of giant robots for their respective armies. The world government learns that the island's power reactor has become unstable and will explode within 66 hours, destroying all of life and Earth itself. The government sends the Death Caprice squad, composed of mercenaries Ken Kaido and Ryo Magami to solve the issue, along with their giant robot Mazinkaiser, but was that a good idea?

Just to start off, I am generally not a huge fan of anime movies. They tend to try to pack a lot into a limited time, leaving things to get "lost in the sauce", and also they just usually lose my attention after about 30-45 min. through. THAT WAS NOT THE CASE HERE.

If you're not a fan of intensity and awesome action scenes then this isn't for you.

Throughout almost the entire movie something's getting blown up or someone's getting stabbed, but it all happens in the most awesome ways

Story

There's not really much to the story, but I think that's fine given it's a mecha/action movie that's also a prequel. The story that is there is, however, somewhat intriguing. I have yet to see the series, but this movie has definitely got me interested

Animation

I gave this a 10/10 for the sheer fluidity of the action scenes. I felt like I could see every swing of a sword, every kick, every bullet flying, etc. And this is especially impressive, to me, because these are mechs pulling off these crazy stunts. And don't worry there's some actual human-human combat in the movie as well

Sound

I believe the soundtrack for this was very appropriate. It added to the explosive intensity of the movie. I especially appreciated the metal infused opener. It's actually what made me check this out in the first placed. The sfx and voice acting were very appropriate and well done as well. I especially appreciate the work of the two main protagonists and the final enemy they fight.

Character

Aside from the two protagonists I felt this movie was very lacking on this front, but they made up for it when certain characters rose to the occasion and they showed a special connection certain characters in the movie.

Enjoyment/Overall

I will say again for someone who doesn't normally enjoy anime movies, this held my attention. The action kept me wired for the entire experience and it was enjoyable to watch the two main protagonists, dare I say, kick ass and raise hell. I gave it a 7/10 because there could have been more interesting characters, especially female characters, and because I would rather have liked to see it in anime series or an ova format rather than a movie. My score is also due to the fact that there is a certain that they incessantly mention yet you never see them go into action. It was really kind of annoying :/

And that's my review hope you found it helpful
