Togainu no Chi
咎狗の血A Third World War left Japan devastated, and in these ruins, an organization named Vischio seized control of Tokyo, renaming it Toshima. Tournament style battles called Igura take place on the streets, overseen by Vischio. Combatants murder and fight for the chance to take on the tournament’s king known as "Il-re." This tournament is not the only one around, however. Akira, a young man separated from his family, participates in another known as Bl@ster and is hailed as nearly unbeatable. Though his companions attempt to shower him in praise, Akira is taciturn and indifferent to their awe. Fate has bigger plans for Akira than streetfights, and he finds himself in police custody with a murder pinned on his head. Unable to prove his own innocence, all hope is lost until a mysterious woman named Emma appears, offering him a chance to participate in Igura in order to obtain his freedom.

Well, to be honest when i first wanted to watch this anime... I hoped it was yaoi because it was recommended on some forum ages back. But since i actually finished the whole anime expecting to see yaoi, i was disappointed. There were like a few sexual bxb references made so i wasn't 'all' too mad.
The characters were good, not going to lie. Everyone did their role well and the steroid thing was heaps fun to watch... Not psycho at all.
But since this anime was an actual game, i can't really say anything bad about the ending, it's just as you predict; empty.

Togainu no Chi is a pretty good anime, except it could have gone so much farther and the concept was amazing. There could have been another long and super popular anime there but it was cut off and was ultimately kind of disappointing, but I couldn't rate it horribly because it was a good show, and the concept was really great. The characters were good, the art was good, everything. It's just disappointing that it wasn't more. It could have been SO awesome not that it isn't great now...I guess I would recommend it, it is violent so violent-anime-lovers, this would be for you (me included) ;).So basically Akira is wrongly accused of a crime and has to play this killing game collecting tags (dogtag necklaces) from other players (which isn't exactly explained and there are a lot of plot holes but ok) and win (which wasn't really explained how to win either) or else he couldn't get out of jail (which doesn't really make sense since he already kinda got out going to the game and it seems like he could have just run away right off the bat cuz' of what happened at the end...). Anyway it's a little confusing and swiss-cheesy when it came to explanations but whatever. Watch it anyway, it's short and pretty good anyway.

As you can probably tell from my icon, I love BL. Quite enamored with it. I'm also really into action and dystopian themes. Reading manga, doujinshi for TNC, and playing its game, I was ecstatic for this show to come out. I'm not one to really regret what I start, mainly because I'm easy to please and I know what particulars turn me off. Togainu no Chi had everything going for it. BL, action, dystopian, little drama for variety- and it was so ruined I couldn't believe it.
The show came out at the same time as some other BL stuff- I think Junjou Romantica or Hatsukoi- and they were super popular. I, at the time, wondered, they can ride those tails like a flea on a hyena! But, no...
Story: My type of story. Poor guy doing the.. a thing at the wrong time gets pressed in between a rock and a hard place in a terrible environment for living, and a poor background and bleak future, fighting to the death certain people who he can/not take out, helped by people who just happen to be helpful. Unfortunately, the terrible pacing and choppy, unsatisfying revealing of information made me realize that if you didn't have the background on the series like someone like me, you would be bewildered, because I was flippin' bewildered. I had a feeling of being left out, even if I was the demographic they were aiming for. I couldn't really attach myself to the anime, though I watched it to the end and was thoroughly not enjoying it from the beginning-middle to the end.
Animation/Art: Terrible. Angular, uneven, often unmoving, lazy. I could deal with all that if they at least tried to make it artistic. I've seen some low budge stuff and so the makers deal with it by making it more artistic somehow- dialogue, characterization, environment, anything. Nope. It was cheap, and we got cheap. Dang, at least some more fightin'... Or sex... Or somethin'...
Sound: Haha, this is something I least pay attention to (unless the anime is about music), but I do remember TNC having some bangin' tracks, plus the opening and endings.
Character: I've never seen so many bland people. Maybe I was numbed by everything else, but even Rin, who was supposed to have this somewhat cheerful attitude most of the time just didn't do it for me. Everyone just happened to be there, and didn't have background, or personality. And Keisuke and Akira was supposed to have, you know, something, but they both really only had this jump in, I don't know, affection or drama right before Keisuke gets some Line in his system, and that's really the only time that I got excited. Nano and Shiki: Blips. Everyone else, specks in my memory.
Enjoyment: I tried to. But I was so disappointed.
Overall: Big regret. :c
