A Certain Scientific Railgun
とある科学の超電磁砲The student-filled Academy City is at the forefront of scientific advancement and home to the esper development program. The seven "Level 5" espers are the most powerful in Academy City, and ranked third among them is middle schooler Mikoto Misaka, an electricity manipulator known as "The Railgun." When strange incidents begin occurring throughout the city, she finds each crime to be connected to the elusive "Level Upper," a legendary device that allegedly increases the esper level of its user. As the situation escalates, it becomes apparent that there is more to the Level Upper than meets the eye, and that Academy City may be a far more twisted place than the glamorous utopia it appears to be.Toaru Kagaku no Railgun focuses on Mikoto and her friends—and the dangerous situations they find themselves in—as they get caught up in the matter of the Level Upper. As Mikoto says, "There's never a dull moment in this city." [Written by MAL Rewrite]

I don’t know what to say other than “get off of Kitsu and go watch Railgun”
gcorwin - 2016-12-30 04:22:20
Railgun takes my Misaka Mikoto, my favorite character from Index, and puts her in the spotlight. I loved the world A Certain Magical Index built, but this spin-off has a much better cast of characters who have a degree of depth the Index crew did not have.
You could technically watch this show before Index, or not watch Index at all. The two somewhat overlap, but you don’t necessarily need extensive context on Index to get by. That being said, I watched both series in broadcast order, and loved it.
Bottom line, Misaka Mikoto is the one true Biribiri, and is a significantly better main character than Toma.
P.S. here is a link to a reddit post discussing the series. This person’s impassioned writing made me start it, so maybe it will convince you.

Note: This popular anime is a spinoff of another popular anime called A Certain Magical Index. There are also events in this that take place prior to and during events of the latter. Just want to throw that in there, and that this is known by many as one of the few spin offs to be better than the original.
Are they right? In my opinion? Well I haven't seen Index so I'm just going to judge this on its own merits and won't compare it to its original counterpart. Let's see how this anime fares.
Story: Academy City is a highly developed place in terms of technology. It is said to be 20 to 30 years ahead of the rest of the world, and 80% of its 2.3 million residents are students. The focus of studies here is directed towards esper powers. Misaka Mikoto, one of the top level espers in town, shares a room with Kuroko Shirai, another high level esper who is a member of Judgement, a law enforcing agency composed of students. Both attend Tokiwadai, a private school reserved for the high-leveled and the rich.
Kuroko's partner at Judgement, Kazari Uiharu, is a low level esper who studies at Sakugawa middle school. Her best friend and classmate there is Ruiko Saten, a level zero, one who has no esper powers. Together, the four encounter several adventures in the exciting scientific town.
Despite being an action sci-fi show, this show also focuses on the slice of life stuff. I know there are some shows that try to balance SOL and action, but I feel this show has done that the best (that I've seen so far), it gives just the right amount of time to get to know the characters, warm up to their personalities, see them interact and see the world around them, and showcase the action and intensity in the show [after all that], sometimes in each episode...
I'd say the same about the world around them, but although it looks nice, we don't really get much explanations about the espers and all that stuff. Now this isn't really necessary since the majority of the show doesn't focus on it (it focuses on SOL and action focusing on other stuff that I'll talk about later, as well as the characters)
When the show gets to the action though, its unbelievable. The choreography and speed is exhilarating, the tensions are high, and you root for the main leads every step of the way, its everything you'd want in an action anime and more :D
There are also two story arcs in this show, I'll be talking about them both individually. The first major story arc involves the Level Upper, something that can make an esper's level rise instantly, but is it just that or is there something more behind it?
Personally, I thought it was ok, not the worst (I'll get to that in the next review), but too predictable and could have been better. I like the main characters and their interactions in this, as well as the smart commentary and dialogue that happens in this which, unlike Element Hunters, I was actually able to pick up on them and made the fight scenes even more intense. I liked the mystery behind the Level Upper and how it works, though it does go on a bit longer than it should (not as long as... THAT arc but that's for another time) and Ruiko's development is fantastic~
However, not much happens in this until near the very end, there's a lot of focus on the one-dimensional bullies who just want power for no reason whatsoever and its a real pain to sit through (Sadly the main reason I'm not rating the story a full on 5), in fact a lot of the villains in this are just horrible with bare bones motivation and over the top designs. None of them are particularly interesting... with one exception. But we'll get to her later.
A few more sol episodes later to let the crazy happening prior sink in and let the environments breathe and relax, the next story arc comes into play. Which I won't give away much, but it involves"Poltergeist incidents" caused by multiple espers temporarily losing control of their abilities simultaneously and a transfer student that sort of comes into play in the story along with callbacks to previous episodes.
This is probably gonna be biased, but this is my favorite arc in the whole franchise. Every episode has something going on and its hard to not want to watch the next episode after that to see what happens next, there's more buildup for what's going on and what's about to happen, some questions are answered, backstories and character reveals are... revealed, and it has one of the most satisfying climaxes I've ever seen in any anime.
Sure there are some clichés involving the misunderstanding and the 'not believing something and getting into fights with someone cause of something they heard' but they're kept to a minimum. My only real gripe with this story arc is that the final FINAL villain in this is just horrible and annoying. Over the top design? Check. Stupidly powerful for no given reason? Check. Monologues and boasts about superiority and mocks the others for being 'weak' and also having a backstory and motives that make absolutely no sense whatsoever? Check, check, and CHEEEEECK. Still it was incredibly satisfying when they do shut her up and everyone else gets their sweet and happy ending, and that alone makes me so happy c:
Animation: Anything besides great doesn't do it justice. Everybody looks like they belong, the designs fit with the character's and their personas (even though the thugs and bad guys look stupid and generic but hey, it fits them well I suppose), but more on that later, again. Everything in the animation department is fluid and clean. The animation on the movements, especially on the action, is solid! The action is fast, fluid, and very well animated, its not flashy but with the story and characters you'll still be on the edge of your seat, and that's how you make a great action anime. The lip syncing is surprisingly smooth, and the background looks typical (with a lot of white), but at the same time so alive and vibrant. The animation in the OP and ED are also really good too. Speaking of which...
Sound: Do I even need to say it? Sigh... I love the opening songs. Both of them. They both have soft verses, slowly building up to the intense and awesome chorus that show up in the beginning and end of the songs which gets my blood pumping every time and I get excited for watching episodes too! In fact I want to watch it again after watching them both they're that amazing! And the animation most definitely helps in that aspect also!
watch?v=mIk7bGqK6U4
watch?v=IXv9KS0e4so
The ending songs aren't as memorable and awesome, in fact, there a lot more quiet and slower paced, but they are nice enough to listen to on their own merits. I also like how they're about friendship and not love like so many other shows that do this even though romance isn't in their catergory. Not a lot to go on in the animation department either, but with songs like those, do you really need to have action in them?
watch?v=lE4_MoBOacM
The voice acting is flawless, I can't think of anything wrong with it, all of them do a stellar job in portraying the characters, emotions, and outcomes that make them so much more dynamic and alive (and also in some cases, annoying and hate able. Seriously that monolouging from the villain is obnoxious and I want her to die already!). So overall, nothing wrong on that front.
Characters: Ooh boy, now comes my favorite part to talk about in this review. Probably the best part of this show aside from the SOL aspects is the main character cast, I mean it, these are some of the best character dynamics I've ever seen c:
Starting off with the always popular (well deserved might I add) Mikoto Misaka. At a young age, she found out she was a Level 1 Electromaster, espers who have the ability to generate and control electricity, as well as see beyond the visible electromagnetic spectrum. She enrolled into Academy City so she could train her powers and worked so hard her powers ranked up to Level 5, the highest esper ranking (with her being the third strongest of the seven espers with this rank).
As an electromaster, she can generate and manipulate electricity which she can use to shock opponents, hack into electronics like computer networks and security systems, and even use electromagnetism to cling to surfaces or manipulate iron particles into a chain-sword whip. Mikoto's signature move is her ability to shoot metal projectiles such as coins at high destructive speeds, hence her nickname, Railgun (See? There is a reason that's in the title c:) If she is in a bad mood, she will sometimes let out bursts of electricity describing her emotional stress, usually resulting in power failures or in worse cases, a thunder storm that can cause citywide blackouts.
Mikoto attends Tokiwadai Middle School, a famous girls' school for the rich and elite espers and is also one of the five elite schools of Academy City. But despite this, she's short-tempered, prideful, and has an improper attitude with some tomboyish tendencies and insecurities, a fact that only a few other people know about.
She is very fond of cute and childish things, such as flowery pajamas and Gekota, the popular frog mascot franchise but tries to hide this notion in order to save her reputation (which is actually kind of relatable, as that's how I react to my guilty pleasures. I like how they handled that). Contrary to what she claims, she has a strong sense of morals and hates injustice. Mikoto can get impatient and rush into battles face on and not ask questions until after the fighting is done.
Next character I want to talk about is a... not-as well liked character. Mikoto's roommate named Kuroko Shirai. I can see why she's hated by some, Kuroko can be annoying and whiny at some parts, having an obsessive, perverted crush on Mikoto (calling her 'Sissy') and is for the most part trying to get intimate with her (which usually ends up with her getting electrocuted or punched as punishment), also getting jealous when she sees other people getting Misaka's attention that aren't her friends.
...So is it wrong to say that I actually kind of like her? Hear me out, I know it ain't a good reason, probably, but I would like to address my reasoning's for not hating Kuroko as much as other people. First off, I feel that she geninuely cares for Misaka, and not in an infatuation way, but in a more loving way. Kuroko doesn't always act perverted towards Misaka, there are times she acts like a good friend to her, always showing concern for her well being and even warning her not to interfere with criminal activity and let her and Uiharu handle the work.
Oh yeah, I almost forgot. Shirai is also a member of Judgement, a special public committee group whose duty is to maintain peace and order in Academy City. She's a Level 4 with the power to teleport herself and other objects, but requires immense concentration in order to do so.
I think the reason she act perverted around Misaka is mainly cause of teasing and to cheer her up from feeling down, cause when Misaka doesn't react to her behavior, Kuroko acts worrisome. It's like Shirai said in the second season: Its not that she's a Level 5 that she admires her [Mikoto] so much, but rather her kind, level-headed (no pun intended), strong determination, and the fact that she puts other above herself that makes her one of a kind. I find that pretty admirable. Even when Kuroko does act creepy at times, it doesn't really bother me, in fact is it wrong that I find it funny in some places? Well except for this one line...
"Let me be your personal slave, I'll do anything you want me to!"
...Yeah I'm not gonna lie, that is a very stupid line.
Next character is Kazari Uiharu, Kuroko's partner for judgement and friend who is a Level 1 esper. Sh'es usually shy and humble, but her personality quickly changes to overly excited when it concerns the life of the upper class, especially anything involving Tokiwadai. Uiahru also loves sweets, and displays various skills with the use of computers, such as repelling hackers and gathering intelligence. Uiharu also keeps anything she touches at a constant temperature but that's not explored much at all in the anime. She can get pretty aggressive whenever her best friend Saten teases her. Speaking of which...
The last main girl in the series is Saten Ruiko, a Level 0 classmate and friend of Kazari's. She can be the most level headed compared to the other girls and is a voice of reason, but at the same time she's also the most cheeky. She likes to read up on urban legends, most of which turn out to be true, and has a high level of curiosity that often lands her in dangerous situations (even having a keen nose who smelling out rumors and juicy bits).
Ruiko, muck like Kuroko, likes to tease her friend Uiharu, only she flips her skirt to reveal her panties... and much like above, I feel Saten does this to cheer her up or get her head out of the clouds, or at least give out a friendly greeting (though doing it in the middle of a crowd is unnecessary). For example, when Uiharu and Kuroko get into a fight, Saten tries to flip her skirt to get her attention and her mind out of the situation in hand, and when it doesn't work, she gets sad.
Also the development she gets later on is also really good too, so there's that.
The last character I want to talk about is... ok this is a big spoiler so if you don't want to know, skip this and go straight to the Enjoyment section.
Harumi Kiyama, A scientist with disheveled hair and little regard for modesty, which is demonstrated when she strips in front of others without thinking about it, a result of her years being a researcher (as well as being the one who made the Level Upper). She starts off being pretty forgettable, but its her backstory with the children and her development that truly makes her stand out (that and her tired eyes). Her intention was to use the network to save her students, a group of Child Errors that were used in an inhumane experiment that left them in a coma; she has resorted to such extreme measures because the city's administration refuses to allow her to use Tree Diagram to find a cure. However, when the network goes out of control, it creates a fetus-like creature known as AIM Burst; feeling responsible for creating it, she tries to sacrifice herself to stop it from causing anymore chaos.
You can see in her backstories her relationship with the kids and how she came to be and get a sense of camaraderie (as the kids do act like kids for one thing) and feel sorry for her with all that's happened to her. Its also relieving and reassuring when you finally see her get her happy ending and reunites with the kids (btw that part at the end of the show with the blimp was so touching and bittersweet) c':
Overall, probably the best villain in the show (I'm counting both of the season here) in my honest opinion. Even the side characters (aside from, again, the thugs and villains) are likeable, which is also pretty impressive.
Enjoyment: Aside from the stupid lame villains and thugs this show loves to pull out, I enjoyed every minute of this show. Its exciting, its emotional, and above everything else, it's fun. Show's got almost everything you could want and more...
Overall: An electrifying first season which has something for everyone. I highly recommend it for those who love slice of life, action, fantasy, sci-fi, and drama, especially when its all together in one deliberately awesome package... probably not for comedy cause that can get stale after a while but there are some funny moments in here.
Pros: Action-packed scenes to keep you on your toes, SOL (slice of life) scenes to balance it all out, developed characters and arc, the last arc and climax, fantastic music, fluid animation, pretty backgrounds and art, mostly flawless voice work (for dub anyway, haven't seen sub), camaraderie between the main girls, great ending.
Cons: Lame villains, first arc can be predictable at points, sometimes it goes a bit overboard with its humor, doesn't explain much in the world building department.
Also recommend(?): Not sure what to recommend, since I don't know many shows that are like this yet... maybe I'll find something eventually to recommend.
Thanks for reading my 97th review~

Toaru Kagaku no Railgun is something that you watch when you got time to kill, because it does just that. Well, more so in the second season, which really, drags, on. Maybe no so much when looking just at a single season but as a whole be prepared for filler. The story how ever is quite good, it gives you a story that hasn't really been done before. It also in a few situations makes you think and also throws you through some loops. On the other hand you'll find yourself watching a couple of episodes about the same thing that's suppose to be a spooky revelation, yet you catch on right away. Animation is just above standard, giving you some cool shots that look almost 3d. Overall sound is what you'd expect, but few songs will stick with you. After you pump through the filler episodes you might be left with a good anime in your eyes, but it's all on your perspective.

"With great Power comes great Responsibility!" - Stan Lee
Power is something that every human being has dreamt of having at least once, being it the power of money, strength or simple influence. It is something that helps people change things around them and makes it possible for life to be a lot easier. However, Power does not come without a certain price tag, sticking onto it. With whatever power you obtain, you get the chance to not only change your life but that of others as well. A huge responsibility lies upon the shoulders of those ruling and having the powers that others long for and there are several ways to handle this responsibility and for everyone there are good examples for it. You can simply abuse your power, oppressing everyone that is weaker. You can simply ignore everyone around you and don't care about anyone but yourself. Society though in this age, sees it as the duty of anyone having power to help the ones that have less and speak up for them. Ladies and Gentlemen, todays Anime deals with the issue of obtaining power and having power. Today's topic shall be Index' first Spin-Off To Aru Kagaku no Railgun!
As this is a Review of both Seasons of Railgun, I am going to give two scores for every category! (One for the original and one for Railgun S)
Story:
To Aru Kagaku no Railgun's setting is almost exactly the same as Index'. The Anime takes place in Academic City, a fictional town, that dedicated itself to the advance of science. It has amazing technology and almost 80% of the people living there are students. Most of these, didn't come here for the science aspect though, but for the second big objective that the city was found because of. The training of Espers. Espers, to those who don't know, are people that mysteriously obtained power that they now can use for all kind of things, but for the most time for the sake of fighting. They are split into Levels ranging from 0, which indicates that you have no ability at all, to 5. There are only 7 Level 5 Espers and those are counted as the 7 strongest ones in the whole world. In that city, lives our main character Misaka Mikoto. She is pretty popular Esper, since she is known to be the third strongest Level 5, also known as the "Railgun". One day, she gets to know her roommate Kuroko's, a Level 4 Teleporter, acquaintance from her work at Judgment, an organization that focuses on keeping Academic City safe. The acquaintance Uiharu, a Level 1, has always been a huge fan of Misaka and brought her best friend Saten, who doesn't have any powers at all and is of the opinion that probably all Level 5 Espers are arrogant and annoying people. As they meet the "Railgun", a friendship quickly develops and the four of them hang out together more and more often. But at the same time, strange incidents start happening everywhere in the city and even though the four at first seem to have nothing to do with it, they get sucked into it faster than they thought they would...
The Story of Railgun starts of rather weak, presenting a lot of Slice of Life episode to begin with and only a few episodes that really go into the Setting itself. Not to say, that these are bad or anything, it's just not what is to be expected out of a setting that looks this way. After quite some while though, the pacing starts to get faster and more and more incidents start happening. Meanwhile, the show decides to bring in an actual plot. That is to it's better, as the story for Railgun's first season might not be as good as for Index, but it certainly is well done and while there always are a few filler episodes between different arcs, they get back to the actual plot fairly quickly. The strength of the arcs is just as with Index, it's climaxing. When Railgun wants to set it's climax, it gets amazing. Using epic fights great speeches and really well done villains for the sake of ending everything with a big blast.
The first season's story is while certainly not being bad not as good as Index, the second season blows everything out of the water. Entering the second season, we get to see the sisters arc, a part of the Index show that only had 3 episodes over there, from Misaka's point of view. In Index it was a fairly decent part of the show, but now in Railgun, it gets extended to more than a half of the season and a lot of things get shown that people who watched Index didn't know about. It suddenly shifts into a part that is really dark compared to everything Index has ever done and is what I loved about it. That said the first season did something similar but not to the extent that Railgun S did!Railgun: 7.7/10
Railgun S: 8.7/10
Characters:Even though getting amazing at points, the story of Railgun is not what drives the Anime. The strongest point that the Spin-Off has is in it's characters. Other than it's predecessor, this show uses it's characters a lot more and is working towards their development. While Index often only used them as a plot device, Railgun rather uses both parts to bring each other further. The story advances the characters and the characters advance the story. We have our main protagonist Misaka Mikoto, aka the "Railgun". She is a pretty popular Esper, as she is listed as the third strongest Level 5 in the world. Still, she stays really levelheaded and often doesn't really think that her powers are anything to show off with, but rather sees them as a practical tool. That's what makes her friendship with the other three characters possible. Nonetheless, she is a really strong woman in total while caring for everyone around her. Caring this much for people, often makes her vulnerable though, since she never wants anyone around her to get involved into things happening around her. The next character is Misaka's roommate Shirai Kuroko. Kuroko is a Level 4 Teleporter that is (at least it gets strongly hinted) sexually attracted to Misaka. She has a rather bold personality and is the one that the most comedy relief comes from, mostly using her tries to get close to her roommate. She can get really serious at times, though most of the time being when it is about her work at Judgment, an organization that keeps the streets of Academic City in order. Next up is her Judgment Colleague Uiharu Kazaro. Uiharu is a really quite and kind girl. She is Kuroko's team partner in Judgment, but she normally only sits at their base though, as she is really good with computers. The last one is Saten Ruiko. She is an energetic girl, that has a unique fascination for urban rumors and is Uiharu's best friend. She is a Level 0, meaning that she has no power at all.
The side characters in Railgun are pretty much the same as for Index. While all being fairly interesting to watch, they often lack a little depth and character development. They are all given background and motivation, but they don't seem to stand out as much as they used to in the first instance of the franchise. That is not due to them being bad though, but due to us now having strong lead characters. For Index, the main characters were really generic and didn't have any interesting characteristics. This made the characters shine, since they were a lot better written than Touma and Index themselves. For Railgun, this is not the case. In Railgun, the main characters are really well done, making the side characters only remain in their shadows and not seem as amazing as they were in Index. They still are quite good though.
The characters in Railgun are a lot better as in Index, as Railgun focuses a lot more on them than it's parent story does. It is able to let them grow on you really fast and manages to capture their mentalities really well! This can be seen best, whenever the show enters a darker part of the story, such as middle parts of the Level-Upper incident and the Sisters Arc. They are in no way one-dimensional and everyone has a believable and likeable side to him. Heck, even the villains in the end often turn out to either be pretty cool or just amazingly well written for the most part. There aren't quite as many side characters in Railgun as there were in Index, but the amount of them still is pretty high compared to other shows. They all are well written though and almost none of them is boring.Railgun: 8.5/10Railgun S: 9.1/10
Art:The Art in Railgun's first season is pretty good. As expected from J.C. Staff, the animation is pretty well done, while not being outstanding. It is detailed and fluent during the action scenes, but is kept to a rather standard level in the Slice of Life parts. The use of CG-Animation is quite obvious though, as it does stand out quite a bit and does not look good! This gets really annoying, when they start doing the background purely based on CGI. For the second season, the standards of Animation rises quite a bit, as there were several years of a gap between the production of the two shows. The Animation does get more fluent and even though it doesn't get any more detailed it doesn't need to. However compared to other shows of it's time, both are only above average and could've been better. One plus point for Railgun S though is, that they use a lot less CGI than any other Raildex show. The character designs don't look too original, but are nothing to complain about, since they for the most part are bound to the original show. However the ones that are new aren't too original either.Railgun: 7.5/10Railgun S: 7.7/10
Sound:Railgun's Soundtrack was done by Maiko Iuchi, who is part of the company "I've", that did the OST for Index. He also did the Soundtrack for Ano Natsu de Matteru. The Music in Railgun is really good, having a great variety of tracks, ranging from energetic electronic music for the fight scenes, light hearted tracks for the Slice of Life parts and quite piano OSTs for the sad scenes. It suits the show really well and is really good to get you either hyped up or breaking to the ground. Of course it is not something that a Hiroyuki Sawano (Attack on Titan, Guilty Crown) would have created, but it does it's job. Even outside the Anime, the OST still has an impact, as it is a lot of fun to listen to even while not watching the show. That is an attribute, that makes an amazing OST. The only part that I don't like about it are just as in Index the light hearted tracks, that often annoy the hell out of me. They are fine when not being noticed or really quite, but they don't really sound good to me. The Openings on the other hand are amazing. All four of them capture the show really well and are able to get you hyped for the show itself. The songs are amazing and I've been listening to them on my phone all day long. As for now, there is no dub available and the Japanese voice acting is as always really good (I can't judge too much though since my Japanese is not good enough).Railgun: 7,9/10Railgun S: 7,8/10
Despite being part of the same franchise and even being set in the same city as Index, the themes presented in the two Raildex instances are entirely different. While the parent story focuses more on the war between church and science, the church doesn't play any roll in the spin-off. Instead, Railgun is more about Power, how to obtain it and what to do with it. It deals with the lack of power and how the wish of having it can effect people and it deals with the responsibility of having a lot of power and how it can effect people's life. It does so amazingly well, presenting it in the characters in a great way and never disappoints in good and flashy action. The story and setting both are really interesting and both seasons of it are great.
Now as I calculated the scores I gave to To Aru Kagaku no Railgun and To Aru Kagaku no Railgun S (being Story, Characters, Art, Sound and my personal enjoyment) I got to a score of 8.02/10 for Railgun and a score of 8.52/10 for Railgun S. The first season already is good mostly for it's characters, but the second season then proceeds to get lengths better and is simply amazing. As it stands now, both Seasons are currently unlicensed and is available for legal streaming on Crunchyroll.
And with that, I hoped you enjoyed this Review and until the next post!

Toaru Kagaku no Railgun - Spoiler-free review
Toaru Kagaku no Railgun isn't your average supernatural, action anime. It's a supernatural, action anime that has cute high school girls doing girly things, featuring our favourite tsundere... Misaka Mikoto!!! Now Toaru Kagaku no Railgun is a very girly anime, but at the same time, it could be filled with perfectly animation action scenes that will leave you in awe. It's definitely not the best anime around town, but it's one of my favourite anime in terms of story.
Story: 9/10
The story of Toaru Kagaku no Railgun could be considered of my favourite storties of all the anime I've watched. The story follows our favourite tsundere, Misaka Mikoto. Misaka and her friends are just normal high school students that have esper powers, well some of them have powers, the others that don't are usually useless. When trouble strikes, they will be there to clean up the mess. The story is fairly simple and is more than well done. Now I could of gave the story a 10 out of 10 but it was filled with so much fillers. The fillers could literally bore a person to death, I mean almost half the show had boring fillers. But what Toaru Kagaku no Railgun lacks, it more than makes up for it with it's great way of telling the story, not to mention the ending is probably one of the best endings I've ever seen in anime, for those who have a heart, the ending will make you happy and glad you watched this anime.
Art/Animation: 10/10
The art and animation was a splendid masterpiece. The art perfectly matched the anime and the animation was truly perfection. The action scenes look fantastic and was done to look like not even a single frame was left out. Anyone watching Toaru Kagaku no Railgun could easily have an eye-gasm in the middle of it's battles.
Sound: 7/10
The sound was good but not the best, and it isn't bad either. Aside from the highly addictive opening theme songs and the great ending theme songs, everything else is fine. The sound was fine, it wasn't bad but there wasn't really any to stand out in my opinion.
Character: 6/10
The characters were not bad, but they were far from great. Most character do serve a purpose, but only few actually really develop. Throughout the whole series, you see very little development from the characters, especially from Misaka's friends. Shirai Kuroko is a very funny character but receives no development and is sometimes annoying. Saten Ruiko and Uiharu, Kazari, although they are pretty decent characters, they're sometimes useless. And as much as I love tsunderes and think that Misaka is a great character, she is not the best character in the show, that award goes to Kiyama Harumi who's back-story was unforgettable and her desire shines and is what makes the story of Toaru Kagaku no Railgun so amazing.
Enjoyment: 7/10
I enjoyed almost every bit of Toaru Kagaku no Railgun, even the characters were pretty funny and enjoyed them, but the one thing I could not stand is the filler. I did NOT enjoy the fillers at all, only in a few moments in the fillers are decent and funny. But the fillers did nothing but make me want to see more of the epic story or the awesome battles. The fillers bored me to sleep and kept me asleep as if I was on sleeping pills. But other than that, I really enjoyed Toaru Kagaku no Railgun.
Overall, Toaru Kagaku no Railgun is a great series to watch and if you enjoy cute high school girls beating up criminals with esper powers (and fan-service), then I highly recommend this anime to you. That's if you can get past the fillers. I'm ohhenry2, and I give Toaru Kagaku no Railgun, a great 8/10
