Kiss x Sis (TV)

キスシス

After Keita Suminoe's mother passed away, his father promptly remarried, introducing two step-sisters into Keita's life: twins Ako and Riko. But since their fateful first encounter, a surge of incestuous love for their younger brother overcame the girls, beginning a lifelong feud for his heart. Now at the end of his middle school career, Keita studies fervently to be able to attend Ako and Riko's high school. While doing so however, he must resolve his conflicting feelings for his siblings and either reject or succumb to his sisters' intimate advances. Fortunately—or perhaps unfortunately for Keita—his sisters aren't the only women lusting after him, and there's no telling when the allure of temptation will get the better of the boy as well. A step-brother and his step-twins. Both of them try to hook up with him, but he doesn't really want to. That's all there is to say about the story. I feel like not that much is happening during the anime, except those twins wanting to get their 'brother' in bed, but even that is very funny to watch. Though many don't like 'Kiss x Sis' I kinda did. The characters where not very unique but the soundtracks were lovely and the animation didn't disappoint me either. There indeed is a difference between 'Kiss x Sis' and 'Kiss x Sis (TV)' but I didn't recognize it at first.

I watched this show not because I wanted something to...get off to.  I watched it for a very different reason: I had no opinion on incest in anime prior to this show. I chose to watch this show instead of Yosuga no Sora.

In retrospect, I probably would've had a much better time watching Yosuga no Sora, since I've heard that show acts as a social commentary on incest. KissxSis, on the other hand, is incest for the sake of incest.

The story of KissxSis is simple: it follows a pair of twin sisters, Riko and Ako Suminoe, in their attempts to either get their younger brother, Keita Suminoe, to fall in love with them or to sleep with them.  Yeah, that's pretty much it. Along the way, Keita has to deal with other girls who he unintentionally involves because of the plans his sisters do in an attempt to seduce him - there's one girl named Miharu, who Keita accidentally gropes, she starts to develop feelings for him, and as a running joke, she often has a hard time holding her bladder; there's Mikayuzi, a girl who is younger than Keita, who is basically the loli of the show, and she seems like she would fit right in with the cast of Kodomo no Jikan (I say "seems like" because I have not seen Kodomo no Jikan, and I have no plans to, either); and then there's Yuuzuki, Mikayuzi's older sister, a closet fujoshi (female otaku) who loves cosplay, and the teacher of the Suminoe siblings, who is notable for being a), the only character I liked all the time, and b), LITERALLY THE ONLY CHARACTER WHO HAD A PROBLEM WITH RIKO AND AKO TRYING TO SEDUCE THEIR BROTHER. I'm not kidding!

If you can't tell by my description, this is a harem anime.  Now, before you roll your eyes and think "not another person who hates harems picking what they see as an easy target", I want to put this out there: I actually LIKE harems. While it's not a perfect genre (there are a fair amount of bad shows out there - this show is one of the bad ones), it does have some shows that I really love (Sekirei, Bluer than Indigo, and Heaven's Lost Property are my favorites).  So I'm not criticizing this show because I'm one of those people who happen to hate the harem genre; I'm criticizing this show as a fan of the harem genre because this show sucks.

The animation and sound are better than they have any business being - it looks pleasant; if only the same could be said about the anime.  The music was also pretty good, especially the ending theme - the song in question, "Steady Boy", was actually kind of enjoyable, despite it being about a topic I don't like as a result of watching this show.

Most of the harem members fit into one of 2 categories - either a), they were obviously sexually interested in Keita, or b), they were shy but secretly sexually interested in Keita.  Yuzuuki and Miharu are the only ones that fit in the second category.  It should be noted that I found them the most likable - but Yuzuuki was the only one I found to be consistantly likable; Miharu was hit-or-miss in this regard.  I will give KissxSis credit for one thing: it doesn't resort to many of the stereotypical roles for the harem members; there's no tsundere, no party girl, no ditz, etc..

The rest of the cast I don't like for one gigantic reason: they didn't have a problem with Keita's sisters attempting to have an incestuous relationship with Keita.  Heck, the parents ENCOURAGED this relationship.  I'm not kidding.

The comedy was mostly miss for me - sure, there were some jokes I chuckled at, but the rest of the time, I was making that uncomfortable sort of laugh you make whenever someone tells a bunch of jokes that aren't funny.

Just skip this show.

ALTERNATIVE (AND MUCH SUPERIOR) CHOICES:
Sekirei (A harem with similar amounts of fanservice, more likable characters and no incest!)
Heaven's Lost Property (A harem that's much funnier, and doesn't have incest)
Bluer Than Indigo (One of the best harems out there; no incest)
Rosario + Vampire (yes, really; no incest)
Ben-To (Not a harem, but it has equal amounts of fanservice; no incest)
Is This a Zombie? (Funnier, and doesn't have incest)

Let's be honest, if you start watching a highschool ecchi anime that has the words kiss and sis in it, why would you expect anything else than incest and fan service? It's really entertaining and very enjoyable imo and vast experience in the genera, it has some cute moments, it's full of romance and jealousy is in the air, it's a good show overall which delivers what It's suppose to deliver.

Non-existent story, flat characters and average animation; yet it doesn't pretend to be anything more than it is and what it is is very enjoyable if you switch off your brain.

Kiss x Sis is the TV series to the OVA and manga adaptation. It is about a boy, Suminoe Keita, and his everyday encounters (often perverted) with his older twin sisters, Ako and Riko. The plot of the series is light, you can almost think of it as slice of life if you take out all the erotic antics from the equation. But then it wouldn't be AS good as it is now would it?Many of the scenes aren't much better or much worse than what you would see in a regular show this season. Although the details of "certain" scenes clearly had much more dedication for you know.....Obvious reasons. The soundtrack also seems to be similar to the art as it won't stray too away from the industry standard. You have your mix of erotic music, cliched moment insert songs, and the OP and ED (which were decent). As for the charactere s of the show, I think they were nicely done. I think its safe to say that Keita seems like a reasonable representation of most average guys. Now on to the bread and butter of the show, Ako and Riko. While the twins aren't the most stellar or beautiful characters out there, their love and borderline actions to get to Keita that draws you in, thinking "Oh god go for it" or "DO IT, DO IT". I do think the twins' were a bit over the top, trying to get off and get into Keita's pants all the time. But its definitely their appeal that has you coming back for more.It would be a giant lie if I said that I don't enjoy the show. Each episode has a different means of seduction or...enjoyment. And I truthfully admit smiling like a complete idiot at the end of each. Bluntly speaking, it is borderline hentai/porn. The show knows how to take foreplay (for you kiddies reading this wait a few years before find out :P) and make it so much more appealing. So far each episode is a c**ktease and you know kinda left me "unsatisfied."I originally read and watched the manga and OVA, so the TV animation certainly met my expectations. Although I am a little disappointed that more couldn't be done to improve the quality of the show in terms of animation and music. I think for many of the viewers, its a hit or miss show. If you don't like perverted stuff, it really may not be for you. But if you don't mind feeling a little horny after watching an episode, I definitely recommend this.
