Girls und Panzer Specials

If you enjoyed the main series than these will certainly come as a welcome addition. These mini-sodes vary in length from around 2 to 15 minutes. They are set in various periods throughout the show, some take place between episodes and add some filler, others take place during episodes and add some interesting alternate perspectives and background.

These specials definitely appeal to the average viewer and despite lacking substance in some episodes, generally address questions left unanswered by the series, albeit only minor ones.Ep 1: Water War, is a fanservice episode where characters go out shopping for swimsuits. Nothing overly interesting, but at least a wide variety of designs were created. No relevance to story.Ep 2: Survival War, follows the cast on a day of camping. Again, not overly interesting, but depicts what happened on their "day off" before training. Little relevance to story.Ep 3: School Ship War, sees Anglerfish team explore the ship and discuss the history of academy ships, explaining their origin and why they came about. Fairly relevant to the story.Ep 4: Anglerfish War, acts as an AMV for the Anglerfish Song, depicting the cast dancing in various locales to the full song. A must, for those who enjoyed the song in the series. No story relevance.Ep 5: Snow War, tells of what happened when the scout team went to scout the Russian's tank formations. Features a fuller rendition of the Yuki no Singun marching song and adds some depth to a pair of characters. Interesting and informative, fairly relevant to the story.Ep 6: Banquet War, covers the girls' victory party. Although having little story relevance, its funny in places.Overall, an enjoyable set of specials not dominated by fanservice. The standard of animation mirrors that of the series, no new characters are introduced but some are expanded upon. The quality of voice acting as well as that of music, again is the same standard as that in the series. These are not entirely worth going-out-of-your-way to watch, but are enjoyable if you have a little time to spare.

Plot:You may have heard of kung fu, but the girls at Oarai High School practice gun-fu—really, really BIG 75mm gun-fu, in fact. It's called Sensha-do, and it's the martial art of operating armored tanks! They take it seriously too, and since winning the national Sensha-do championship is such a huge deal at Oarai, they sometimes go to extreme ends in order to get the best students from Panzer class to sign up. Which is how Miho Nishizumi, who HATES operating tanks, gets drafted to join doomsday-driven driver Mako, even-triggered gunner Hana, highly receptive radio operator Saori and combustible tank-fangirl and loader Yukari as the incomparable Anko Team. They may not be on the half-track to fame and fortune, and maybe a few of them would rather shop for tank tops than become tops in tanks, but once their focus is locked and loaded, they're absolutely driven.

But, this isn't Girls Und Panzer the series this is a compilation of 6 mini series that take place in the Girls Und Panzer universe.

Story: There really is no story to speak off each spinoff has its own little story but nothing really adds to the main show. Each episode is about 15min long. The first episode has the girls buying swim suits, the second episode has them going on a camping trip, the sixth episode has them throwing a party, the third episode is basically a music video for their signature dance, the fourth episode elaborates more on the blizzard in episode seven and finally the fifth episode is a tour of the ships that the school is on. None of the stories were particularly interesting to me. I was rather board because most of these types of things have been done by every other school based anime out there.

Animation: I have no complaints about the animation it is basically the same as the tv series. All the colors are vibrant and everything flows nicely. The scenery is very well done and the girls themselves are also animated quiet well.

Sound: the ova series doesn't have very many stand out tracks in it. The dub is the same as the main tv series so i would say it is a solid dub as well.

Characters: the characters aren't really expaned upon in the ova series. They are basically the same as they were in the mini series.

I really cant say i enjoyed this mini series. None of the episodes really stood out to me and i don't think I will ever rewatch any of them. I would recommend that you should skip the ovas and just watch the main tv series instead.
