Kowarekake no Orgel is a short, simple, yet endearingly sweet story about a boy who's lost his dreams, and a girl who's lost her memories.

Story 7/10, Character 10/10

It's impossible to talk about the story of Kowarekake without its characters. That's not to say that the story is bad on its own, though. The thing that brings Kowarekake no Orgel to it's greatness is actually the simplicity of its story. I went into it not expecting anything more than a silly robot girl meets lazy guy, and while that could be considered the simple surface, the story has a deep and meaningful undertone. As the characters develop, rather surprisingly well for a short OVA, you learn about Keiichiro's family, and his struggled past. You also get a short glimpse of Flower's past. Most of the OVA though is about their relationship between eachother, and how they both grow and learn from the other. It's a story that's been done before, yes, but the character and emotion from Kowarekake bring it far above what most other animes bring to the table.

Sound 10/10

Kowarekake features soft and subtle background music, and a perfect summer environment. Cicadas echo across the small Japanese townscape the majority of the story takes place in, and the summer night ambient sound gives a feel as if you're really there experiencing the night breeze at the ocean. There's also a focus on a song throughout the OVA, and it really is beautiful when the chance to fully enjoy it is taken in. The song used in the credits is also nice, but that's just the cherry on top of the rest of this fantastic soundtrack.

Animation 9/10

While you won't see flashy visuals akin to that of Shaft, or other large production companies, Kowarekake features smooth and fluid animations that are pleasant to the eye. I saw few, if any, animation errors, and the characters were able to portray their emotions perfectly through their movements.

Overall 9/10

While a simplistic story may bring down the end enjoyment a little, character development and an amazing and endearing story about the growth of a relationship and moving on in life, bring this anime OVA to a 9/10.

P.S.

I did actually cry at the end of this, so if you don't like a story that can make you cry tears of enjoyment look elsewhere.
