Psycho-Pass 2

PSYCHO-PASS サイコパス 2

A year and a half after the events of the original sci-fi psychological thriller, Akane Tsunemori continues her work as an inspector—enforcing the Sibyl System's judgments. Joining her are new enforcers and junior inspector Mika Shimotsuki, a young woman blindly and inflexibly loyal to Sibyl. As Akane ponders both the nature of her job and the legitimacy of Sibyl's verdicts, a disturbing new menace emerges. A mysterious figure has discovered a way to control the Crime Coefficient—a number compiled from mental scans that allows Sibyl to gauge psychological health and identify potential criminals. Through these means, he is able to murder an enforcer, leaving behind a cryptic clue: "WC?" scrawled in blood on a wall. Akane and the rest of Division 1 soon find themselves playing a deadly game against their new foe, coming face-to-face with a conspiracy threatening not only the authority of the Sibyl System, but the very foundation of Akane's own convictions. Psycho-Pass 2 has an ability to keep you wanting to watch the next episode. While I often see a lot of complaints about the story, I honestly didn't have an issue with it until the very end. Yeah, it mimics a lot of the same things from the first season so it might come out as stale, like the main villain having a psycho-pass that can't be read, but his true motives and the like remain hidden and there are more moving parts within these 11 episodes.

The pacing is wonderful right until the last episode when things go a little out of whack. Each plot twist and reveal is done at the perfect time. You just think you know whats going to happen next when they toss you a complete curveball, and not one from left field, but one that you kind of see in your peripheral but brush aside until it's right in front of you.

The characters though, are not very compelling. Akane, while as a character is awesome, is not challenged at all this season like she was in the first one and therefore nothing really happens to her. If anything she's a major hand in bringing the conclusion. Kamui has an interesting plan but he himself is somewhat boring. Don't get me wrong, he has a lot of backstory, but he takes a step back to his plan. Mika (the recruit from the end of S1) was a chance to do something with a blank slate, but instead they just use her as an annoyance. Oh, and Tougane, they telegraph hes bad news from the start, but when they reveal why and his "ability" it seems like a bad plot device.

The animation and action are very good. Maybe the animation is not as good as the first season, but as a visual show it's very pleasing to watch. Even the combat sequences are well thought out. It also has a noticably fitting soundtrack.

Psycho-Pass S2 is a well crafted ride with bland characters. Not even overall bad characters, just ones that are not fleshed out or dont get treatment. They don't even serve a purpose to give another character development, because of a widespread mindset of refusal to change, ironically, it's the Sybil system itself that changes the most in the show, and the change is somewhat underwhelming to what could have happened.

PP2 has a lot of missed opportunities, but it does a lot in the 11 episodes it has to work with. 7/10

Spoiler Free Pyscho-Pass 2 Review

Having waited for Psycho-Pass 2 to come out as soon as I finished watching the airing edition of Psycho-Pass 1, the hype was quite real for me. I had no idea how they were going to continue or surpass the first season with a second one, but I had loved the first one so much that I kept a skeptical but hopeful outlook as the first episode finally aired.

Psycho-Pass 2 did what it had to do, and it did it surprisingly well.

STORY 7/10

I like to keep things spoiler free, so I won't actually give away any of the plot, which is why this section will be quite short. Despite having a weak start at the start of the season, the episodes still always had me engaged. The flow of the episodes weren't quite as smooth as the first season, but that can be attributed towards the shortness of the season. There were some parts of Psycho-Pass 2 that outright confused me but in the end, it was wrapped up very nicely.

It's a pity Urobuchi didn't have a part in the writing of Psycho-Pass 2, but despite that it still managed to hold my attention despite the first few episodes frustrating me with slow progression, many question and not many answers. In that respect, I can only give it a 7/10.

Animation 9/10

What can I say? Psycho-Pass 2 is true to the franchise and yet again brings out a set of amazing art. The background is amazing as usual, and the high technology aura is felt throughout. However, Psycho-Pass 2 cannot receive a full 10/10 despite this, as sometimes the animations are either recycled or outright dodgy, which is a disappointment, as it really takes away from the viewing experience. Other than that, animation is top notch, scoring 9/10.

Sound 10/10

Maybe its just me but I love the sound in Psycho-Pass 2. I loved it in Psycho-Pass and I love it now. The entire cast has fabulous voice acting and it feels very vivid to me. No character seems fake and every character is lovable or hate-able because of their voice acting. Good ED, but felt the OP was a little weak in Psycho-Pass 2, at least in comparison to Psycho-Pass. Don't get me wrong, it's still good, just not AS good. Other sounds are beautiful as well, as well as that satisfying firing sound of the Dominator. Easily 10/10.

Character 7/10

I have to say that it's a pity the score is so low in comparison in this respect because it could easily be a 10/10, perhaps if only the season was longer. Tsunemori becomes an amazing character in this season, not only taking the charge (finally) but persevering and growing as a character in just 11 episodes to become one of my new favourite characters. She also sprouts some seriously cool one-liners. Kogami gets a little bit of air time as well, even if he's not really there, and his use in Psycho-Pass 2 is very clever. However, like the laws of equivalent exchange, one must give to receive. Having a great lead character in a measly short 11 episode season meant the side characters were just pushed aside and feel very under-developed. What even is division 1? It's just Tsunemori. No one else gets any development. Kirito Kamui, the season's antagonist of sorts also seems to pale under the greatness of Makishima, which really felt like a let-down (but let's face it, Makishima was just too good). Because of this, characters receive 7/10.

Enjoyment 8/10

It's Psycho-Pass. What's not to love?

OK so there was some major frustration at the start of the season but overall it was a pretty enjoyable experience. I liked it. Not as much as Psycho-Pass, but I liked it.

Overall 8/10

Not as great, but not too bad. Psycho-Pass 2 stands on its own very solidly, and even manages to tiptoe along Psycho-Pass as one of its kind. I can happily recommend Psycho-Pass 2, as long as you're not faint of heart and can take a lot, and I mean a lot, of gore.

I didn't enjoy it as much as the first season (I must admit I really missed Makishima... Kamui is not even half awesome!). But I liked how some characters developed: Akane has grown a lot and she isn't as naive as before and then Gino is much cooler and I loved him a lot in this season. And in this season I guess "chief Kasei" is even more detestable..... I just can't bear her.

The soundtrack is as awesome as the first one and I'm totally obsessed with every song TK (from Ling Tosite Sigure) sings for anime.

Oh yeah, one last thing.. what I really liked in this season was the "what color?" theme and all the questions about the actual infalibility of Sybil. Sometimes I was like "it would be nice having such a rational way to judge people" but then I thought "but what if it has flaws too? what if everything is judged in the wrong way?".
In the end I realised humankind can't be judged like that and all we have to do in order to have a better is society is up to each of us and not up to the government and those who administer justice.

Ok, that's really all! Hope this will be helpful!

the season 2 of Psyco-Pass is a little bit annoying at beginning because a different objective appear and make the season 2 a little bad but have a great sense too so lets begin..

About The Story
the story have a great main objective and they focus on it but i dont give a 10 because is very different of the 1st season , this is normal.... because this is now the season 2 but something is not here i dont know what is this but something is not right in the season 2 anyway watch it you gonna see what im talking about ... , the drama and the thriller in it is very good this is clearly not shit but something in the story is missing this the one little thing make me not enjoy the story at 10/10

About The Animation and Sounds
seriously.... i dont think someone gonna hate this Animation and Sounds this is a really good stuff and work nothing negative to say about this.... but the opening music is not so good xD.. but anyway we dont care about this...

About The Charactersthe characters have all great role in the story and they are 100% serious this is very nice too see because 0 comedy is here they are all mature so i have no problem with the characters they are all good but i have some characters i hate....and im not gonna talk too much about characters because i dont know to say more about the characters soo..

Akane Tsunemori / at the season 1 this characters at beginning look like a very idiot girl but now she know what she do and have a great logic sense this is very nice this character is now OP i very like her now this is a real investigator

Shou Hinakawa / this guy why i talk about her ? because he look like innocent and idiot but have a very f**k**g good intelligence about something and he is a really helpful in the story so this guy at beginning i have think he is stupid but no way you have see nothing LOOOL

About Enjoyment
the enjoyment is good because of curiousity behind this mystery and this thing keep you in the story more and more and after this you need to watch more... but this is not more enjoyable like the 1st Season , the season 2 still good and can be very enjoyable but for me something is missing so i dont have enjoy this Season like the 1....

i recommand to watch if you have watch the 1st Season because the Season 2 is a big important element for the movie coming soon and anyway if you have watch the 1st Season you gonna need to watch the 2 plus the movie so yeah that it

Psycho Pass is one of the most amazing anime made & for it's sequel to live up to the expectation of us viewers was a hard task.
This season started quite nicely & in the midway it looked like the show was gonna be amazing but it didn't go that way. The ending was just terrible & almost the same as the previous season.
If only there would have been a better change in the end & they hadn't tried to make the villains look so weak after building such a formidable image of them.
It all became redundant & I was hoping for something better from the creators this time around.
Looks like we will have a season 3 or maybe they will conclude it in the movie but whatever it'll be, no one yet knows who is wrong & who is right. ( Sibyl or those who oppose it).

I'm no stranger to the gossip among the anime fanbase and their feelings in regards to how they whole-heartedly believe this anime continuation was a huge disappointment. Yet, I'm here to oppose those unwarranted beliefs and thus allow newer anime fans to this anime franchise to try not to let many of the opinion of the more prominent disenchanted anime fans out there get to you. If your a newer anime fan to this anime franchise or about to continue the series with Psycho-Pass 2 then do so knowing, Psycho-Pass 2, is worth your time as much as Psycho-Pass. Come on! The anime series still retained the same director as Season 1, Naoyoshi Shiotani, so this series is still in some ways Psycho-Pass.

You see while I agree, Psycho-Pass 2, was a departure from Season 1 of Psycho-Pass since it lost its more philosophical core. This is not something that would produce a marring effect since seen like that this can be a continuation to appreciate for what it is. A different take or direction from a different perspective.

You know I don't really think there should be a further need for me to elaborate on why you should want to watch Psycho-Pass 2 or Psycho-Pass. Simply put modern-looking, intellectual anime like this do not come out often and that in itself should make you curious. But, hey, the decision is all up to you.

Basically Psycho-Pass 2 is an anime with a different approach but nonetheless a powerful anime series like its predecessor.

Looking at Psycho-Pass 2:

"Exquisite animation by Production I.G. (no doubt), captivating story progression, immersive characters, good music in regards to the OP and ED, and passionate voice acting. "

Recommendation Level: Very Highly Recommended

Very short brief review after watching five episodes.

Story: Pretty much the same as the first season with some differences and pretty much all new people. The main plot point is the exact same as season one, some dude cant be inforced bla bla but with a little bit of a twist.

Animation: While the animation itself is usually pretty good, they use CGI in many spots where it just does not make sense to me, like when they grab the dominator's.

Sound: Pretty good like last time.

Characters: They killed off pretty much everyone you like and or loved, a lot of the new ones will piss you off greatly.

Enjoyment: Well if you liked the first season you will probably like the second, although I am missing a lot of the previous characters.

hauck.santa - 2014-11-05 22:43:57

This review is written after seeing the fourth episode. This show has become the worst it could possibly be. After removing the best character from the first season it has been degraded into this astonishingly disappointing second season. The whole arch feels like an unnecessary side story.

The show is purposefully violent and disturbing without meaning. Once again we see the same plot points repeated for the dozenth time. YES WE KNOW SIBYL SUCKS! Every single bad guy that these idiots fight is immune to their stupid guns and yet they still seem surprised every time their DOMINATORS DON'T WORK AS USUAL!!

None of the new characters are interesting whatsoever and the main new inspector girl is so infuriating that it is painful to watch her.

The only thing that could save this season is if Kogami came back and killed literally everyone in the show.

Seriously though why would they do this?

Update as of episode #7:Its gotten better now. Its still substantially worse than the first season but its now enjoyable. The characters are still weak and tend to act stupidly. The animation is still inferior to the first season but it is by no means bad. There were a few parts where it looked a little off but these faults can be ignored. As an added bonus the Dub is just as good as it was first season. The fact that you see Kogami (even if it is just imagined) makes it better too.

Final: Having now finished the show, I have come to peace with Psycho-Pass 2. While it is substantially worse than the first season, I am still glad that it exists. In the end it was a fun side story despite being somewhat badly written. I am very much looking forward to the movie which will be available soon with returning animation studio Production IG and Gen Urobuchi.

Episodes watched: 22 + 3

A world where crimes are not solved, but prevented. You know, like Minority Report. Although, here we do not have predictions, we have evaluations of current psychic composition of a person, which is interpreted into numbers and color ("hue"). The technology is called "Psycho-pass". Those who have too high "crime co-efficiency" (represented by those numbers) are secluded, treated, some become "enforcers", who serve under "inspectors" to capture others like them. And that's all you'll get from me regarding the settings. No plot. Because you NEED to watch this.

This is not a horror. It's not trying to scare you or disgust you. It's trying to peek under the hood of the darkness hidden in all humans and let it out. There is insanity in antagonists, but you can't hate them, because they have reasonable reasons (pardon the pun) to do what they do. Because they believe the system is not as pure as it may seem to some. It's not "wrong" per say, but it's not that righteous either.

The team makes use of dynamics change, frequent perspective change, whatever it needs to make you delve deeper, whatever t takes to make you see the abyss staring back at you. There may be slow uptake, like a rubber stretching out, and then - BOOM! Rubber is let go and it smacks you in the face. Some episodes are made to seem "sterile", emotionless, but all to bring up the emotions in you. To feel disgust to what you see, what you feel and what you ARE (I'm referring to episode 15 [when you see it - you'll get me]).

The characters are insane, everyone in their own right and style. Not that they all are crazy, but... Well, just watch. They are THE characters.

Second season keeps all the good art (although sometimes I question the face art), all the atmosphere and adds more mystery in it and more self-questioning.

Just go and watch it: if you read my previous reviews you've noticed, that I criticize a lot and this is one of the rare breed, that I give 9.5/10

This is one anime that would make big time on Hollywood, the story by itself is really mind boggling while at the same time exciting.
