Sakura Trick

桜Trick

Love is in the air when the story of Sakura Trick begins. Haruka Takayama and Yuu Sonoda were best friends in middle school, and are now attending Misato West High School together. They are assigned to the same class in their first year, but are given seats on opposite sides of the room! If that wasn't enough, it is announced at the entrance ceremony that the school will be closed in three years. This doesn't bother either of them, as they still plan on having lots of fun together during their high school years. Haruka gets jealous of Yuu making new friends though, so the two decide to deepen their bond. "Let's do something we'd never do with other girls," Yuu says, and they share a kiss in a vacant classroom after school one day. After that one kiss leads to many kisses, the two begin to realize that the relationship they share has changed completely. But what will happen to their relationship once a disapproving older sister begins to suspect that something is going on between the two?

A heartwarming anime you can enjoy every episode of. If you're looking for Romance and Comedy [or just yuri ;)] this Anime is exactly that. It's a cute love story, but nothing more.

I have nothing against yuri. It's not my thing, but I'm cool with it if it's well done.

This is pretty weak though. This is just one of the most boring slice of life shows I've watched in quite some time. It started off okay-ish, but it soon become trite and repetitive, repeating the same jokes and scenarios over and over again. By the end, I was almost begging for it to be over.

The characters are all one-dimensional so I really didn't care about them. Some were so bland I couldn't bother to remember their names. The humor started off as occasionally chuckle-inducing but got stale very fast. It's bland and it goes on forever.

The animation is simple and generic looking but for Studio DEEN, it was at least surprisingly consistent so I have to give them a point for that. The music is also quite repetitive and too nauseatingly upbeat. It kind of gave me a headache after awhile because it never lets up. It's kind of like being as Disneyworld, eventually you just get sick of the constant loud happy music.

The yuri relations feel shallow because of the bland characters. It also feels like it's pandering a bit too much a times, but that's par for the course, really.

There isn't really much else to say, I just found Sakura Trick to be a dull show with generic characters, annoying music and visuals and just kind of a waste of my time in general. Maybe you'll like it better, who knows.

Rewatch Value: No (Based on a Yes/Maybe/No scale)

A cute as hell Yuri anime without all the romance BS. Are your frustrated with your current romance anime and want something you can just sit back, laugh and enjoy some romance? Well look no further!

If you're looking for something more substantial, this anime is not for you.

I gave this one a shot due to the hype and all of the gifs I'd seen of it. Haruka and Yuu are very cute, yes, but there's hardly any build up to their relationship other than, "well I like you! And we went to middle school together!" They kiss in the first 10 minutes of the episode.

It's not even really mentioned by either girl in the first episode that they're even that into each other. Haruka simply bumbles around getting jealous because Yuu is hanging out with other people who all of a sudden decided that they were all going to be \\friends//!

Personally, while I know some people enjoy moe-blobs and boobshots, this was really disappointing because I couldn't take any of it seriously.

If you're so excited about "lesbian relationships," why don't you watch an anime that features them in a better setting? (Revolutionary Girl Utena and Inari KonKon are good examples.)

For me, this didn't do it. I think I'll stick to Inari KonKon, thanks.

No Yuri involved. People say Im sarcastic.

A typical School yuri anime.

It is a lovely anime. While many yuri characters seem like they’re playing around, Haruka is openly and unabashedly gay, and it’s funny to watch her react to anything that gets her fancy going.

Her being jealous about Yuu-chan is great, but it’s when others are shocked and she’s excited that I laughed! I like it – I mean les be honest, she’s a lesbian. It is a nice anime if you are bisexual, lesbian or even love yuri.

Bloody. Brilliant. Another ecchi made specifically for guys, just what the anime community needed. Animation was rubbish, no surprise there really. Opening theme was absolutely abominable, I'm 90% sure there were sakura petals in every single scene. But no worries to all you 14 year old lads out there! There were bouncing breasts and rosy-pink thighs abound! And they have actual girls kissing! Because it's a "legitimate" lesbian romance anime. Gordon bloody Bennet.

This show is so amazingly adorably cute that I want to cuddle my monitor to death from watching just the opening sequence.

If that doesn’t tell you enough about the show to know what I probably think of the show, you’ve not been following my tastes in anime that closely.

Sakura Trick is a rom-com story about two girls, Haruka and Yuu, who fall in love in high school. It’s based on the 4koma of the same name and follows a gag format not unlike a show like Kiniro Mosaic. Unlike that show however, there’s more of a focus on the actual relationship building between the lead girls, which offers up more opportunities of depth.

Now, thankfully Sakura Trick knows exactly what it’s doing with it’s presentation so far. From start to finish the first episode is filled with great laughs, glowing personality-rich characters and a great artstyle. It also does just enough cute and sensual things with its direction to make it clear that there’s more to Haruka and Yuu’s relationship than just your average yuri-crush that you’ll see now and then.

But just how does the writing hold up in the relationship department thus far? I’d have to say that it does pretty well for itself in this first episode, though admittedly some things do feel rushed due to the format of the show and it being adapted from a 4koma. The actual events that lead up to the couple’s first kiss and further endeavours throughout the episode are thought out well enough but does suffer ever so slightly from this fast pacing.

Now, I can’t talk about this show without addressing the fan-service. There’s quite a good amount of scenes which feature our heroines in situations that offered up the chance for the directors to get quite steamy with the presentation.

I didn’t find this distracting and actually felt it made the scenes stronger as throughout the scenes we also get to experience the thoughts of either Haruka or Yuu. With that said, there are some shots of the side-characters that felt somewhat out of place.

People have called me out in the past on being too nice at times when a show features LGBTQ themes, which I don’t think I am, but that’s a discussion for another time. I just thought I’d mention it here just to let you know that I’ve heard it and don’t need to hear it again.

I just really love this first episode a whole bunch, just like I had expected to do after reading about the show. Sometimes it’s just really satisfactory to be right about something.
