Gangsta.

GANGSTA. ギャングスタ

Nicholas Brown and Worick Arcangelo, known in the city of Ergastalum as the "Handymen," are mercenaries for hire who take on jobs no one else can handle. Contracted by powerful mob syndicates and police alike, the Handymen have to be ready and willing for anything. After completing the order of killing a local pimp, the Handymen add Alex Benedetto—a prostitute also designated for elimination—to their ranks to protect her from forces that want her gone from the decrepit hellhole of a city she has come to call home. However, this criminal’s paradise is undergoing a profound period of change that threatens to corrode the delicate balance of power. Ergastalum was once a safe haven for "Twilights," super-human beings born as the result of a special drug but are now being hunted down by a fierce underground organization. This new threat is rising up to challenge everything the city stands for, and the Handymen will not be able to avoid this coming war. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

Was okay. The ending made me a n g e r y, though.

Haven't seen good anime in ages. Gangsta is a "must watch". The ending is really disappointing, but if you read the manga you'll be even more impressed. Really good.

helmer77 - 2015-12-19 20:47:07

I do NOT suggest you to watch this anime. It's amazing, but once you get hung up on it you'll discover a cliff-hanger ending to the first season, with basically no chance of the second one happening, considering the company producing it went bankrupt.

(I will update it if this amazing anime get's a continuation somehow)

msporer - 2015-10-22 17:05:31

Alright, to start this review off, let me ask you several questions. Do you want to watch an action anime with blood, screams, and ridiculously over powered people? Do you want refreshingly interesting characters, and enjoy quality soundtracks and animation? And most importantly, do enjoy drugs, sex, money, and violence? If you've answered 'yes' to any of these questions, Gangsta. is the anime for you! If you've answered 'no' to any of the above, get your pansy ass out of my review.

In short, Gangsta is amazing. The animation and art style is crisp and amazing, the soundtrack is very well chose, and I absolutely adore the use of binaural sounds in certain scenes. All of the main characters are interesting in their own rights, and in my opinion, are all aware of and use their strengths and weaknesses to their best ability. It has a wide variety of side characters whom all play an important part in the story, and the web of connections between all of the characters is very well done.

I absolutely loved this anime from start to finish, and I can only hope for a next season, if not, I'm just going to compile a youtube mix of Nico's deaf mumbles to fall asleep to at night. The end.

P.S. I'm terrrible at writing reviews but fuck you Gangsta is great.

well thats cleary begin on a high note and completely good during all the anime guarranted this is a mature serie and thats the kind of anime i like watching because of the maturity putting in it and i think there is gonna be a Season 2 thats really look like that , and i think this is in the Top 5 2015 of the Summer Season but hey lets begin .. !

About The Story
at the beginning we have some multiple story because they want to show us what each characters have lived before being at the place they are .. who make the story pretty interesting i like the concept of the Twillights .. because of the realistic they have needed to put a message "warning" for saying thats a story of fictions just saying how much this serie is pretty serious , i recommand to watch the Gangsta Recap after the Episode 9 for understanding better some things in Gangsta thats detailed and talk about some important things so anyway .. , after a coople episode with the multiple story the real story take his path and become more interesting , the story have a lot of realistic too and have a lot but a lot and a bunch of problems ... this is really in a hard time if you catch what i try to say .. we can say they live a little bit the Hell with some difficult past .. Very Good Drama in it !

About The Animation and Sounds
just the animation tell thats gonna be a mature serie and a gangster style serie i don't know why but just by the animation you know it.. and have a very nice style of draw , the Opening and Ending are just awesome.. you have probably see the Opening of Gangsta already because of the popularity and how much he is good with awesome graphics in it.. but hey i will just leave you the link and enjoy !

Opening

Ending

About The Charactersseriously.. they are all awesome LOOL.. if you want to hear more about them in detailed you can watch the Recap but i will talk about them too and i know some of them i mention can be totally random but i talk about the one who you will probably like (some things cannot being say for not spoil the story)

Nicolas Brown / one of the main characters who communicate by the sign language and talk just a little bit but have a very nice and clear voice in his head , some of them can take him for a monster when he is clearly not like that he is more kind that the people think in the anime , he is with Worick and work as Handyman with him for be short they work for helping people , but Nicolas is a Twillight thats why he have a very strong force like you have seen or just call it superhuman strength i cannot talk more for not destroy the storyline , so yeah he is pretty nice , the most of the time he really look serious but have emotion.. he just don't show it

Worick Arcangelo / compared to Nicolas he is totally normal so he don't have sort of kind power .. and he is really good with a gun without forget that he work as Handyman with Nicolas but he have a secondary job who i'm not gonna mentioned you will discover it in the anime , he wear a patch on his left eye .. why ? you will know it if you watch the anime too.. , we can say he can be fun sometimes because of his attitude but when he need to be serious he will be serious

Alex Benedetto / im gonna say something you will probably question yourself.. , this girl is a Prostitute who have been seen by Nicolas and Worick the most of the time by the window but something will happen and they will be 3 together because of Nicolas ( i have spoil a little bit but i cannot describe it if i not mention that ) well she is a really good girl don't judge her because she is a prostitute we can say she live something hard and have nowhere to live so she will work as secretary for helping Nicolas and Worick and for a prostitute she is pretty beautiful and have a really great charm thats pretty sad all the thing who have happen to her but thats a very lovable character

Loretta Cristiano Amodio / she is small but a real leader .. don't f**k with her she have more power than you think.. and very mature too we can say she have a leader aura too .. you just can say she lead something somewhere when you see her , you will like her because of his hard attitude and determination

Theo / another guy who don't mess with his hospital or you will be f**k*d.. he is normal but this is the only doctor in the city and be really pissed off if something happen to his hospital .. well we can call this a clinic but anyway i think he is very strong.. you gonna understand me when you gonna see this guy react when someone fk with his clinic

Gina Paulklee / this girl is the real don't fk with me and let me alone i have better things to do.. she is the Leader of the Twillight just by saying that i think you have already know she is strong as f**k when she is pissed off she can be very dangerous.. we can say Worick and Nicolas are scared of her .. or just not but they don't want to be in problem with her

Ginger / because of his shy personality she is pretty nice but are pretty strong this is a high ranked Twillight who are the most of the time with Gina we can say she guard her

Sig / you will only see her later in the anime but i very like his style and bad attitude and i like the style of cloth she wear she look pretty nice xD.. but we don't have soo much information about her D:

About The Enjoyment
with all the Drama and the shit who happened in this anime i will be surprised to see someone bored.. i very like this style of show so i have enjoy each seconds of this anime and want more and more.., and this is pretty serious and mature.. thats making the show more interesting too and anyway i just question myself who gonna hate that and don't liked it.. this is very interesting to watch for sure.. guys

dam yeah watch it i recommand this serie for sure... if you have like gangster anime style this is for you.. ! same if you prefer mature serie with no childish things if you know what i mean .. , i think they gonna make a Season 2 because of how the anime is finished ( i spoil nothing but) thats cannot end like that.. too much thing are not saying and not fixed.. ! i highly hope a continue !

DON'T MISS THIS ANIME !!! WATCH  IT !

For the most part it was a good show that had me on the edge of my seat since the first episode. Love the characters they were different from the normal action-y ones  the main characters  consited of a deaf guy who is a badass swordsman  a guy who lost a eye who is a part time gigalo and is good with a gun  and a re-formed prostitute.

The plot was well put together as well howeve 12 episode wasn't enough to even begin to expand on the background of some of the sub arc that pop up during the episodes. Episode 12 kinda left that door open for a season 2 or at least a ova because it did end on  a clff hanger.

Either way this was one of a good action series of the summer season

Gangsta. is an anime I had intended to dismiss until I saw multiple people with a similar taste in anime to me expressing their excitement for this adaptation. I then knew that I had to check it out, even if their main reason for liking Gangsta. did turn out to be the ‘hot’ older guys. Do I regret my curiosity? No. Well, after the first episode I thought that I might drop it, but now I’m hooked on this summer adventure into the shady world of Gangsta.

Gangsta. takes place in the fictional city of Ergastulum which is a gritty environment full of guns, drugs and prostitutes. It is not a pleasant sounding setting and I did not have much expectations for it but it has grown on me and is not nearly as crude as I was expecting. Also, the world of Gangsta. promises (and delivers!) plenty of the blood and violence I love. I think this series is mostly about the characters though rather than the city and what goes on in the back streets.

CHARACTERS: If you don’t like Worick and Nic (the main characters), then you are fucked. They are Gangsta. and they are the main reason why this series has avid fans. Our first Benriya (or handyman) is the character Nicolas Brown, a deaf guy who wields a katana and is what is known as a Twilight in the series. Our second Benriya is a gigolo called Worick Arcangelo. Together they work as gangsters that are hired by various people, including the police and a crime syndicate, to carry out jobs that often involve a lot of blood being spilt. If these guys were erased from Gangsta. it wouldn’t be an anime I’d want to watch. They add colour to an otherwise somewhat unattractive anime. Two other notable characters include: the former prostitute Alex, who becomes their secretary after they ignore orders to get rid of her, and the recently introduced Twilight Doug. Gangsta. is still currently airing and so still has many characters to further develop and plenty of new characters to introduce. It certainly has a diverse and fairly interesting cast of characters and is a welcome break from the abundance of anime centred around young people.

MUSIC/ANIMATION/ART: I surprisingly do like Gangsta. but… I don’t love it. You’re greeted with a stylish and visually interesting OP with a fantastic Stereo Dive Foundation song. It is 100% impossible to skip this opening unless you are having a marathon. It smacks you right in the face and gets you hyped for a whole 23 minutes of badassness and then that fades to… utter uninspiring dullness. A bit more creativity please!? The soundtrack also isn’t that great and doesn’t have the meat and attitude required for Gangsta. It is entirely unmemorable which is a shame because Gangsta. is the kind of anime you would expect to have a great soundtrack. It really does have a negative impact on the anime overall as some decent music could really enhance some scenes.

STORY: Storywise, it is fairly episodic so far and focuses on the exploration of the two main characters. Just who are they? How do they know each other? The anime is slowly revealing their pasts and with their new secretary Alex also knowing very little about them we are bound to find out plenty through her observation and questions. Episode 4 also introduced Doug and it looks like he is a worthy opponent for our Nic. I’m without a doubt looking forward to more Gangsta. and if this is the only season we get then I will likely read the manga when it is finished.

I would definitely recommend Gangsta. to every anime fan this summer, especially those who enjoyed anime such as: Black Lagoon and Cowboy Bebop.

I will update this with a complete review.

Episode Five and Below

A little update for the sake of consistency after a meager five episodes i can say with absolute conviction that anime is shaping up to be a contender for my favourite anime of the season bar none.

The focal point for my increasing adulation towards the series undoubtedly hinges on the relationship and chemistry of our main duo Worrick and Nicholas,  they're simply stunning together.   The supporting cast isn't weak by any margin though it's these two that bind the show with an emotional crux.

I look forward to forthcoming episodes with unparalleled anticipation, bravo Gangsta, bravo.

Factor in a glorious anime opening and you've got a series that both whets the appetite and is sure to have viewers hungry for more.

alexa.abernathy - 2015-07-05 16:02:52

I'll edite the review once I finish the anime, but it seems since the first episode one masterpiece of this season.
Good characters, and enjoyable. But the story is too poor. Let's see if this get a development instead of a circle-time anime.
