Interesting how they changed the art style throughout the movie. Typical action movie with solid fight scenes and flat characters.

The movie tied in with the game made in recent years, while accomplishing what it set out to do, was really not all too great, in my opinion.

Much of the dialogue seemed rushed, unrealistic, or just downright cliche. Events that would normally take even a few seconds are made snappy, and therefore made hard to believe or take too seriously. Another matter is the ever changing animation style. While I can see how there are those who would find this interesting, I found it confusing at times (as characters completely change in appearance) and a bit odd in some of its interpretations (such as the emo/punk rock Virgil who comes about in the second style).

The story is more or less the same as the game, following the same key points but diverging every so often for the sake of time (as a minus) or to bring a new event in, i.e. Beatrice's experiences with Lucifer, (as a plus). Overall, the story leaves something to be desired and the closest thing we see to character development is Beatrice becoming corrupted by Lucifer but then, after seeing Dante's cross and a brief transformation, declaring her forgiveness. Dante's character possesses a LOT of potential for exploration as it is made clear he is guilty of every sin of the Inferno, but it only ever glances over how he confronts his transgressions and he ultimately remains a static character.

Voice acting was not phenomenal, but decent. At times in the very end it seemed as though the animation didn't match the words. The music, from what I listened for and recognized, seems to be taken directly from the game and does well to convey each scene. I took a liking to the OST of the game and it fits well here as well

All this taken into account, I did enjoy this movie. It seemed to be built off the idea that the viewer had already played the game and therefore had an understanding of what was going on, which I did, but many events (taking into account that they changed the story and that is necessary) simply didn't take place despite being of apparent importance.
