Occultic;Nine

Occultic;Nine -オカルティック・ナイン-

The "paranormal science" story follows nine idiosyncratic individuals, linked by the "Choujou Kagaku Kirikiri Basara" occult summary blog run by 17-year-old second-year high school student Yuuta Gamon. Little incongruities that occur around these nine eventually lead to a larger, unimaginable event that may alter what is considered common sense in this world. (Source: ANN)

Honestly all I can say is don’t watch this if you can’t read fast. Subtitles move super fast in this, and there are tons of small details. It feels sort of rushed which keeps me from giving it a 5, it would have been much better as a 20+ episode series. I haven’t read the manga yet but plan on doing it to see if there is more clarity or closure.

For people who enjoy listening to seiyuus talk as fast or faster than the protagonist of Tatami Galaxy, cramming as much information as possible into their rapid-fire speeches, have fun—and good luck.

One thing you might be interested to know is that the location is Kichijoji, a real neighborhood in Tokyo.

Be aware that the content is disturbingly violent in many places. The title should tell you that yes, the occult is involved, but would not necessarily warn you of some other related concepts: an underage serial killer, a quasi-New Religion conspiracy, mass hypnotism, a barrage of occult/pseudo-science, and uncomfortably large boobs (though to the animators’ credit, they are not oversexualized beyond their extraordinary size and one unmemorable instance of the obligatory Marshmallow Hell gag). In any case, because of the heavy content I would say this anime is not for the faint of heart, though I would not call it overly suspenseful per se. To my amateur eye, the anime has elements of horror.

Occultic;Nine is a good anime, but it does end rather abruptly. The climax is technically satisfying, but it does not concretely answer questions about the fate of certain characters. The plot and the characters are handled quickly and lightly without too much depth, but for a short anime with so many characters it does just enough without being unbalanced.

The ending song, “Open your eyes” by Asaka, is one of the most beautiful I have heard this season.

A fun hectic ride.

Quite an eccentric mystery story that’s a lot less complicated than it seems at first glance.
The most striking thing about it is the speed of it’s voice acting as it has a lot of information to cram into the little amount of time it has to present it’s case, however despite this it surprisingly doesn’t come at the cost of pacing as there are still plenty of slower moments with missable details to give ever the slightest extra clue about the main cast, which I thought was neat.

The cast do feel like expressionless mouth pieces from time to time, but it’s an issue that slowly fixes itself as the story approaches it’s climax and we get a better understanding of who these people are. The cast itself I feel is gonna be hit or miss for most folk, but I got a joy out of them and they helped keep me invested.

While the story does reach a satisfying conclusion, a part of me wishes there was a longer epilogue, but I won’t lose sleep over it.

Interesting show. Was too fast-paced, to be honest. But enjoyable.

(Crappy review with spelling mistakes , but either read and deal with it or skip )

Incidents involving scientific reasoning and evil organisation that are behind the inokashira lake incident that has captured all of kijijoji especially one of the main characters yuuta gammon

This is the first time I’ve seen a mob of people be hella excited about 256 drowned corpses

Occultic Nine is weird.
They don’t seem to wholeheartedly care about the chronology of their plot. It’s completely okay to create episodes you can put together in the end like a jigsaw puzzle - best example is Baccano!.
But in this case I sometimes look at the screen going ¯_(ツ)_/¯ “Something is definitely happening right now! Why is that girl jumping up and down singing about frogs? I don’t know!”.
Which is okay for the first two or three episodes. But this series is 12 episodes long. If such a short story is confusing/exhausting for so many episodes, it’s just overall tiring.
If you are an impatient viewer, I would not recommend this show to you.

I’m still watching though…I did not give up hope on this show yet.
(As a pro tip from me to you: Don’t watch while you are sleepy or try to relax.)
