Reviews

(All my ratings are lower than usual so 3.5 is really not a not bad score.)
Hey guys,
I hope this pro-con-review will be helpful to ppl who have and havent finished the second season so beware spoilers but dont expect too many.
This review was written after having read some others and thus I am taking some things into account which wouldnt have bothered me otherwise.

Genre:
The Second Season is just like the first season pretty much something for code geass fans (!!But AZ has fewer dynamic characters, which is usually conceived as something bad!!) rather than just pure mecha brawling.
Gen Urobuchi acted as director which makes the story tend towards the dramatic paths.

Notable things about the plot:
- The second season of AZ sadly starts off with a rather random beginning that contrasts the ending of the first season a lot which is my biggest problem with the whole aldnoah.zero anime. The rest of the story is rather consequent.
- The story of AZ2 pretty much centers around Slaine Troyard going on a political rampage just as badly as he got pushed around in season 1.
- The director Gen Urobuchi did not excert his hobby too much. (Which is something like killing people in unexpected situations)

My opinion:
Despite a lack in character personality details in generell, a lack in dynamic characters, the story sometimes being predictable, using many generic characters and a really shitty start off for the second season I still enjoyed the show a lot.
Why? Because aside from lacking a lot of things the core elements are well refined. It has a consistent flow of the story with changes and betrayels being well introduced and happening not happening in seconds.
The art is beautiful. The soundtrack is awesome.
Slaine aside with his detailed and dynamic personality the rest of the static cast do complement each other rather well. And one thing is very important in my opinion: A character does not have to be dynamic to be beautiful.
Im refering to characters like Count Saazbaum, Count Crutheo, Asseylum Vers Allusia, Marito, Magbaredge and maybe some others. (Just mentioning that being dynamic is not about overcoming some trials be they in your mind or real, but its more about changing perspective)
All of them together form a beautiful environment for a well made story wich is underlined by great art and really awesome music.

If you've come this far I thank you for taking your time to read and be my guest to tell me what you think about the AZ+AZ2.

Its a continuation of the first season, nothing to say really.
Refer to my review of season 1.

Any reviews I make, please take with a handful of salt.

*HUGE SPOILERS*
Aldnoah.Zero season 1 was like being on a gently rocking roller coaster going up and the finale was the thrilling descent. It was slightly wild and slightly predictable in it's turns but the ride up was enjoyable and the finale paid off.

Aldnoah. Zero season 2 was like being on the Titanic. You're trapped, you want to get out but you're stuck going down with this ship because it already set sail and you're on it.

Season 2 started with some promise after the bombastic finale of season 1 but like all shows with zero guts all of the characters that died came back . Many in ways that were absolutely 100% deus ex machina . God-Inaho became a cyborg with a robotic eye(which has a soul it swears!) and by the power of Jesus Christ also survived a point blank head shot , Slaine channels Lelouch vi Brittania and is on the rise but like Lelouch he has to fall . Asseylum plays Mrs. Freeze (Robin & Batman) waiting for her magical hour to revive. Everyone else is just a background noise to the Slaine-Asseylum-Inaho show (Including the whole trove of characters with names that were killed the same episode they were introduced WTF).

All in all this whole season was nothing new to the series as a whole but that's the caveat, this was nothing new to the series and provided nothing season 1 didn't have. Urobuchi Gen built the foundation of the house for this show and season 2 is the writers proving they needed their hands held in how wildly they lost control of the story. It wasn't even an entertaining burning descent like Valvrave the Liberator ,that similarly lost control in a bombastic manner. More like watching a sad steady march of the doomed and just wishing they'd stop.

The only comfort is throughout this the animation quality rarely suffered.

Stunning first season, original production, amazing Music by Hiroyuki Sawano, boring second season and terrible ending. I could be talking about Guilty Crown, but unfortunately is Aldnoah Zero.
After the end of season one, i thought "This can't be another guilty crown, right?" I was so wrong.

The season two started really well, but don't be fooled, the story will progress to a point that you will finding yourself hating the characters you used to love and forgetting some of them because it only focus on the trio Inaho, Aseylum and Slaine. The end is weird, rushed and does not make any sense to me.

Aldnoah Zero is a beautiful portrayal of what happens when the destinies of two men collide as they try to create a world for the one they love. What started out as a hopeful and innocent promise to save the world turned into a desire for power to change it and brought on a formidable opponent to bring that desire back down.

AZ is arguably (And for me personally) the best show of the 2014-2015 year. The show tackles many themes and combines them all into an action-packed thrill ride that keeps you on the edge of your seat, until you're completely blown away at the finale. A spine chilling and amazing addition to anyone's ani-list leaves you in awe as most great anime's do. And in the end, ends up being amongst those as one to remember. What begins as a typical mecha-action story turns into a deeply involved tale of the line between power and love.

First, let's talk about the story. The story was pretty unique and had a great twist from a battle between two forces to a battle between two men specifically. To be brief, I can say that the two are fighting for both the fates of the world and the fates of a woman that they both love. Pretty simple on the surface, but as the plot develops and situations become dire, underlying personalities and intentions begin to unravel. With plot twists on every corner, this is a very enveloping and immersive story that can be appreciated by anyone. But what makes the plot so compelling is how it tackles the reality of power and how it changes people and their goals to the point where they find means of justifying any course of action no matter how morally wrong. It doesn't mask these topics to make them beautiful and justified, but rather shows how it will destroy a person and affects the people around him along with its long lasting effects.

The art and animation is nothing short of perfect. Everything was very wall drawn and animated and it just looked straight up beautiful. From the vibrant lightings of the mechas to the smooth movements of them, this show is powerful eye candy. This is not to say to expect some 60 FPS masterpiece, but you know what, this is one of the better looking anime's to be made. That is something that deserves merit and is definitely not going to disappoint anybody.

Music and OST are areas where Aldnoah Zero really shines. This is one of the ONLY anime's out there where I enjoyed every single OP and ED. I have them all stored on my phone and it just brings back the spine chilling memories of this show. Beautiful lyrics and melodies are present, as they always are, but along with that, Aldnoah Zero contains one of the best OST I've ever heard for an action-thriller. Every time they play, you get this sense of both epicness and desperation, as is everything in this show. This really is up there among SAO and AOT for having beautiful scores.

The people that fill the world of Aldnoah Zero are mainly focused on a few characters, and the rest are there just to please the plot. What I mean by that is, a small portion of the cast actually gets time to delve into, whereas the rest are there just to help the main characters drive the plot. Nonetheless, it wasn't so bad and it was more than made up for having greatly evolving main characters. They weren't simply black and white as their colors painted the series really well. They do a good job of showing us how unpredictable people actually are when s*** hits the fan and they find something to fight for. I found myself always trying to guess the characters next move and I was always left in for a surprise.

Aldnoah Zero was probably my favorite show this 2014-2015 year. It was a completely original work which deserves a lot of credit. It starts off a little slow, but it quickly picks up the match the desperate tone of the series. The anime industry is struggling and it is hard to find original series' that really blow you away these days. To save it, series' like Aldnoah Zero need to be more abundant. Aldnoah Zero is deserving of a spot on the face of the anime industry. There were very little faults as I could not find any. Of course, I could be a little biased, but seriously, what was wrong with it at an objective stand point? In the end, Aldnoah Zero is a powerful and spine chilling thrill ride that has the power to revive the struggling anime industry.

gleichner.constance - 2015-02-02 01:21:37

With this brand new season of Aldnoah Zero 2 we got what we actually wanted, we have everyone returning from that train wreck on an ending in season one. And I don't wanna spoil it but it gets way better in season 2, there is so much potential being fulfilled in the episodes I have seen so far. The characters are really good with the exception of Slain being extremely annoying.

Everything about the show is really good and people should stop complaining that it doesn't live up to their expectations, cause one thing is for sure it certainty lives up to the hype!! Can't wait to see what they bring to the table in the future episodes.

Well this review is based on watching the first and second episodes. It looks more promising than season 1 . The main character started to show some emotions and prove that he is a normal human not a robot.  Up till now every thing is getting more twisted, i wish the conclusion of this season would be reasonable. I think that you should watch it, it is not the best but it is much better than some other airing animes
