God Eater

GOD EATER

The year is 2071. Humanity has been pushed to the brink of extinction following the emergence of man-eating monsters called "Aragami" that boast an immunity to conventional weaponry. They ravaged the land, consuming almost everything in their path and leaving nothing in their wake. To combat them, an organization named Fenrir was formed as a last-ditch effort to save humanity through the use of "God Eaters"—special humans infused with Oracle cells, allowing them to wield the God Arc, the only known weapon capable of killing an Aragami. One such God Eater is Lenka Utsugi, a New-Type whose God Arc takes the form of both blade and gun. Now, as one of Fenrir's greatest weapons, Lenka must master his God Arc if he is to fulfill his desire of wiping out the Aragami once and for all. The monsters continue to be born en masse while the remnants of humanity struggle to survive the night. Only God Eaters stand between the Aragami and complete and total annihilation of the human race. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

Personally it gave me the feel of a anime where the main character is actually quite stupid. I mean i love the visual effects however i kept feeling like the main characters personality could have been showed a bit more. During the anime they make a sort of connection between the protagonist and (i honestly cant remember her name) the other special weapon person. She is cute and they have sort of a thing going but then that gets sort of thrown away and then later smashed into the ground and forgotten. If they had made the protagonist's personality a bit stronger and the plot and little more thought out, it could have been a stronger anime.

It looks stupid in the first 2 episodes, but after that, it becomes epic! watch it, you won't regret it for sure!

Took a while for the last few episodes to come out but I'd say it was worth the wait. The ending was great and had left off with having viewers curious. I never really got into the games so watching the anime was a nice alternative.

Didn't enjoy this anime as much as I though as it was confusing to understand the premise of the story... had amazing visuals and sounds but the action was often one-sided and main character very weak... lastly as soon as the serious got interesting it ended.

A great example of how to not start a show.

The first three episodes are an absolute mess. Trying to throw at you all kinds of weird exposition and world building. The set up may be similar to Attack on Titan, but it goes into a completely different direction.

Instead of it being an action-romp with non-stop death and destruction, it turns out that it's actually more character driven. Each episode that aired essentially focusing on something relating to the world.

Some of it is predictable, some of it is cleverly put on its head.

Now, this review is only for the first 9 episodes - this can potentially still go absolutely wrong. Some things are set up, and they might up being super cliché. But we shall see.

Oh, and I don't need to mention how great the Ufotable's animation is, and if you like Go Shiina as a composer - who did the game, as well as such things as Ace Combat, you'll love the Soundtrack too. Though, it's definitely not a Soundtrack for everyone.

Dissapointing , Heartbreaking and Outright blatant slap to the face for fans.
Avoid the anime like a plague and go replay burst or wait for GE2/GER localization.

I have no idea who thought turning a game like God Eater into a full length anime was a goods idea. Out of any video game, God Eater is one of the worst choice to adapt into a full length anime. From what I seen, God Eater is just another Monster Hunter variant and the plot is basically just Attack on Titan, but with giant swords instead of steam powered spider man gear.

Plot wise, God Eater is almost a beat for beat Attack on Titan just with a different skin. The walled city, the protagonist with the special power, teenagers fighting giant monsters, some mystery circulating in the background, you get the deal. Being unoriginal doesn’t necessarily bad, but God Eater is bland and dull in its presentation that watching GOP debate look entertaining in comparison.

None of the story segments are remotely interesting since everything is played completely straight and blunt. And the character are weak and one note and are so forgettable that I cannot remember a single character name. But for an action series, the only thing that the show need is good action to really carry it. Yet, this show doesn’t even have that. Despite above average animation, the battles fail to impress me due to the lackluster choreography and direction. Even though the characters are swinging swords the size of a minivan, none of the strikes or swings have any weight or impact to them. This leads to some unexpectedly boring and dull action scenes.

Honestly, this is an anime I can’t really recommend to anyone. The story is boring, since it just an Attack on Titan knock off, the characters are boring, since all of them are a bunch off one note archetypes, even the action, which is the main appeal of the show, is boring. No one will gain anything of worth from watching this show. To put in simple terms, God Eater can go eat shit and just watch Attack on Titan or Blue Gender.

God Eater seems off to a rough start. The anime is trying a quirky mix of 3D and 2D which means a lot of outsourcing and delaying episodes early into production. This has resulted in the future of the anime seeming a little iffy. It has most definitely resulted in strange pacing and the quality of the animation going up and down depending on the situation. The character design is pretty good with many interesting and memorable looking characters. The enemy design is also consistent, interesting and rather good. The music is very good, providing the right mood and hype when needed with my favourite being the shows intro. It shows promise and I personally hope it gets a lot better as there are a lot of interesting aspects to the show. Particularly that one monster seen from the plane. Overall average to begin with but could be great.
