Is This a Zombie?
これはゾンビですか?Not every zombie is the monstrous, brain-eating type. One night while walking home from the convenience store, regular high school boy Ayumu Aikawa is killed by a serial killer, and is just as suddenly brought back to life by a necromancer named Eucliwood Hellscythe. One small caveat: he's now a zombie. Things get even weirder for him when he accidentally steals a magical girl's uniform, and thus her powers! Haruna, the ex-magical girl, orders him to fight evil creatures known as Megalo in her place until they can figure out a way to get her powers back to her. It seems that life is just going to get stranger and stranger for poor Ayumu from here on out in Kore wa Zombie desu ka?.

An original story with well-placed touches of humor, a must see. I love the theme of Eucliwood at chap. 12 : if you want to hear a Vocaloid cover I share here "Sugao cover (https://jvicamp.bandcamp.com/track/sugao-2)"

This is such a ridiculous but still funny series. It's so bad that it's good again in it's own kind of way. I don't even know what to say about the story because it made sense and no sense at the same time!
It was overly ridiculous from time to time but also had it's "serious" moments (not for long but they were there).
The whole anime doesn't take itself seriously and you shouldn't either.
One thing that annoyed me from time to time were overused running-gags but what did I expect in the first place ;)

The easiest way to put this one anime is "The more you try to make sense of it, the less sense it makes". If there is any cliche that is overused, this anime will try to touch it at least once while making no sense at all. What do I mean? Imagine a cross dressing zombie fighting with a chainsaw. If you want to watch something that makes no sense at all, you found it.

The main thing that put me off this show was how it repeatedly broke its own laws. 'Bosses' that were shown to be near indestructible at first are defeated with either violins, ramen or some other stupid, gimmicky item/combo. And don't even get me started on the boatload of poorly executed clichés. Anything that was mildly amusing at first becomes overly repetitive.
The story seemed alright at the beginning but as it went on, the way it continuously tore through its own pre-established rules just made watching the show feel like a complete waste of time.

I am doing what a hater has to do. To hate. This anime has very bad and unenjoyable story. Senseless story in my opinion. But I very liked the animation, the sound and the charackters, especially the animation. There where some very funny moments in this anime being the reason why I finished watching it, but because of the story being senseless and awkward there is an empty feeling after watching it. It is like I never watched something. I wasted my time watching it. I wasn´t satisfied at all.

"Is This a Zombie?" or "Kore wa Zombie Desu ka?" if you will. Is one of the better ecchi anime I have seen.
The story is pretty good as far as ecchi anime go, with the best moments being the twist mid series and the fight near the end, it would have been much better if they did not sacrifice the story for fanservice and stupid & repetitive humor. But they did redeem them selves at least a little bit by giving us a good spin on what a zombie is like, gave us a nice parody of magical girls, and created freaking "ninja vampires", now that is awesome.
The animation is good, it`s nothing special with todays standards, but it still good nonetheless.
The sound is also pretty good, there are not many OST I remember, but the one that stood out to me the most, was the one in episode 11 that Seraphim plays on her violin to battle the "Megolo" called "Seraphim Play". And the voice acting is great for bought sub & dub versions.
The characters are the weakest part of the anime, with the only good one in the pile of cliché being Eu. She is the star of the show, I honestly could not see my self enjoying this show as much as I did without her. The rest of the important characters are, a mahou shoujo lolicon who is also a very annoying & generic tsundere "Haruna", a big breasted ninja vampire tsundere "Seraphim", who is there to show of her oversized tits, and be almost as annoying as Haruna, a cliché main protagonist "Ayumu", and a cliché perverted best friend of the main protagonist.
I enjoyed the anime, it didn`t wow me, but it was okay for the type of anime it is. But as always my enjoyment has nothing to do with the final score.
Overall, it`s an okay anime, nothing special, as long as you don`t keep your standards high for it you will enjoy it. And don`t expect to laugh to much, since the only humor in the show is the 2 tsundere`s physically and verbally attacking the main protagonist.
P,S. don`t watch the second season "of the dead", it`s really bad...

This may just be the stupidest thing that I have ever seen. It lacks any form of wit and clever writing when it comes to its humour. It uses excessive amounts of fanservice to attempt to get a laugh. But here’s the real problem, I loved it! It goes against all the rules for anime that I should like, and I hate myself for liking this, but the thing is, I just do. Somehow, with a combination of stupid writing, cardboard characters and over-the-top fanservice, it manages to do something special. Make me like something with stupid writing, cardboard characters, and over the top fanservice. I can’t really explain why it works but I will try my hardest to explain. Our story follows a perverted highschooler. (Our hero!) Who seems to have the unnatural ability to make almost any girl want to fuck him. He is also a zombie. (Because apparently romance with a zombie is hip right now in Japan.) As well he is joined by Tsundere, Tsundere-er, and Tsundere-est. Later he is joined by Tsundere 2.0 AKA, The Easy Button. With this one-dimensional group of a pervert and four Tsunderes they go to fight monsters and what-not. Why? Fuck, I don’t know. That’s the thing, these characters have no depth. There is a little bit here in there, but with the exception of Eu AKA, Tsundere 1.0, we never get any insight to their personalities. I mean seriously, look at some of these characters. We have Haruna, she is a magical girl and a Tsundere... That is all. Then we have the Holy Grail of bad characters, Sera AKA, Tsundere-est. Her character is a vampire ninja. Yes, a fucking vampire ninja... What were they on when they made this? Her personality, is a rock. A rock, with tits. Scratch that, a rock with tits who thinks the protagonist is a pervert, and rightly so. The writers seem completely aware of this as they introduce her with a lone that pretty much says she has no personality.Speaking of Tsundere-est’s tits, let’s talk about the fanservice. which there is a lot of. It seems self aware of this too. It’s not like they are trying to sneak it past us for some attention. No, they pretty much have a big sign that says, “we have tits, watch our show.” I mean, Tsundere-er is naked after she transforms out of her magical girl transformation. The protagonist points this out blatantly, trying to call your attention to the screen by pretty much saying, “Hey look, Tsundere-er is naked. Isn’t it neat?” This fanservice continues until the very end of the series, with the last episode ending with the entire cast in thongs. Really, is that really an acceptable way to end a series? With one giant fanservice explosion.Early in the plot, the protagonist ends up stealing Tsundere-er’s magical girl abilities and has to become a magical girl himself. Which calls in another form of low-wit humour, crossdressing. Not only does it creep you out, this plot point also makes for one of the most disgusting transformation sequences possible. I mean, it’s creepy enough when ribbons are tightly wrapping around a girls rear, but when it’s a dude, just... ugh. Also the protagonist seems to switch from being creepy and perverted to being selfless and heroic and I really don’t know when he switches. He can be imagining other people thinking sexual thoughts about him at one moment, and then saving the fucking day the next. But somehow, and trust me, I don’t know how, this show is hilarious. I’m trying to think if there is an episode where I didn’t laugh out loud multiple times, somehow there isn’t. It is just so random that you can’t really help but laugh. But matching the laughs equally are the disgusting moments. From the protagonist getting tentacle raped, to Tsundere-er getting tentacle raped. it is full of moments that just made me want to hurl. It’s gross and that is all, it is not funny, it’s completely repulsive in every way.Well then, if the comedy is weighed down by disgusting scenes, then it must be the plot that makes me like it. Well no luck there. This thing about this plot is that it may have actually been good, I don’t know. You see, there are some points that are actually suspenseful and somewhat emotional... That is until the writers realize that they are being suspenseful and emotional and quickly remedy that with something completely stupid. Keep in mind this stupid stuff is funny, but it is used at a point which may have actually been interesting if it had not been included. Not to mention that this anime is gory as hell. Once again to the point where it disgusts me. Just because the protagonist is immortal, it does not mean that he has to become a fucking pincushion being torn limb from limb every bloody episode. and yes I meant bloody in the literal sense. This show has enough blood to rival Baccano!, but unlike Baccano! it is not the good kind of gore. It is the “why did you need to do that” kind of gore and frankly is something that the show could have done without.I may have found why I like it, it is just so stupid and random. I mean, I like random shows, FLCL is one of my favourite shows of all time, but then again you can tell that some thought was put into it. It’s the way that this show is, it’s so stupid it’s funny. The fact that the protagonist can get his arm cut off in a fight but can win the fight by whipping the loose arm at his enemy, it’s stupidly funny. The fact that there is a restaurant called “Mask-donalds” where the staff is wearing luchadore outfits, is again stupid, but so stupid it’s funny. It’s funny in the same way that a video of someone falling on a bike is funny. It’s stupid, it has no substance or wit, but that kid just fell off a fucking bike, you’re gonna laugh. That’s the thing you do not need to think while watching this show, providing you have the sense to completely turn off your brain then this show becomes absolutely hilarious. However, if you are looking for substance, turn away now.And there we go, I just wrote a review about a show I liked without actually saying that I liked about it. It’s gory, disgusting, poorly written, with a jumbled and messed up plot. It is a trainwreck on all accounts but I just can’t stop myself from laughing at it. As such I give it a 7.5/10. Why? Because I just feel like it and honestly, I had hoped that writing this review would lead to discover why I liked it. However, it just lead me to more confusion. Maybe it’s because it is random, maybe it’s some other weird phenomenon. Sadly I don’t think I’ll ever know.

Story/Characters: 10/10 of 10At the half-way point, this is a well wrought tale, with significant twists along the way. There is a certain amount of "cliche elements" in the telling, but what sets Kore wa Zombie desu ka? apart from the crowd and saves it from being a cliche ridden also ran is the way it turns each and every one of those cliches on its ear, pokes a wet willy in it, strips it of its dignity, and then tells it "It is OK! People still love you even with all your warts!" In other words, the show has an overriding irreverent tone and a mocking sense of humor about itself and the various genres from which it harvests its plot fodder. The show is extremely well written and funny, eliciting several "laugh out loud" moments per episode on average, but at the same time, it actually approaches tear inducing tenderness when it takes the time to focus on the protagonist and his savior/master/goddess of all that is dandere, Yuu. (I said almost... I don't think I have cried yet, though I am a notorious softy... just ask my kids.)The character of Yuu is a thing to behold. Moe in the extreme, she takes dandere to a new height, as she isn't just quiet, she doesn't talk, with the exception of dream sequences, labeled "This is fantasy of our weak-hearted protagonist Aikawa Ayumu", in which she speaks with a high, pleading voice and calls him Onii-chan, complete with mooney eyes, and frequently scantily clad. She communicates by writing notes on a pad, frequently with a tsun edge in the writing, making her, I guess, a tsun-dan-dere character. The other characters are good as well. The heavily tsundere Haruna, who is living with them until she recovers her Masou Shojo powers from Ayumu, is a bundle of contradictions, as a genius magical girl that can't seem to be bothered to remember mundane things like names or where she was supposed to be buying tofu for her magical girl teacher. The third member of the harem is Sera, the Vampire-Ninja who seeks Yuu's aid and stays with them when she is refused, hoping to earn Yuu's help, all the while referring to Ayumu as various names similar to "worthless pile of $%!#". There are also Ayumu's friends at school, who he doesn't want to discover the truth about his living/unliving situation, as being the male living with a harem of magical/dangerous women is not something he thinks his high school buddies can handle. All this would rate a high, but not stellar score if it weren't for one thing that the show does: surprise! Just when I think that I have a handle on the show, it throws a curve. Just when I think I know where the story is headed, it changes course. And just when I think I have things figured out, it turns another corner and reveals that most of what you have seen is not really the way things are. When that is combined with the consistently funny dialog and over the top humor, it makes for an enjoyable ride!Art: 7 of 10The main failing in Kore wa Zombie desu ka? is the art, at least in my opinion. There are frequently times when it seems the backgrounds are neglected, and the character renditions sometimes have shortcuts. Much of the combat animation is choppy and awkward looking, though I will grant that some of this is intentional due to the nature of the zombie protagonist. His body moves in awkward ways at times. The character designs, with the exception of Yuu, are also a bit generic, with Sera being the only human character that I have not mistaken for someone else at least briefly at some point in the show. The men are particularly generic, with the glasses of the 'best friend' character distinguishing him from the protagonist. Luckily there are not many shots of men other than Ayumu. It is possible that this is mostly a personal problem and others see more distinction between the designs, but I particularly find it hard to distinguish Haruna from some of the other girls, either at his school or the "friend" in the hospital that shows up in the third episode. There are some parts that are beautifully done, but others that fall short. The magical transformation sequences are quite striking, in their visual effect and the humor value as well! Another aspect that bothers some, but not me, is the level of fan service and gore. I consider most of the fan service to be parody, and it never becomes prurient or of an overtly sexual nature. The gore is also frequently used for comic effect, and the show is, after all, about a zombie! One must anticipate a certain amount of blood and gore!I'm not saying that there aren't some bits of excellence. Where the animators take the time to make the art shine, it is great. I just feel there are too many points at which they let it slide along at average.Music/Sound Effects: 8 of 10The opening music is very good and the incidental music is frequently spot on. The end music is a catchy little tune, but also a bit annoying, as is the super deformed animation used during it.Voice Acting: 8 of 10The main voice actors are well done, with Haruna and Sera having a nice blend of acerbic tone with the occasional softer side. The male lead is well done but nothing really that special either. The best friend character's voice I find annoying, but I think you are supposed to. The Megalo tend to all sound alike to me. The "friend in the hospital" is one of the strongest vocal performances, as that character goes through some pretty impressive changes and variations across the episodes the is featured in. The absolute winner in terms of voice acting is the sickly sweet voice of Yuu in Ayumu's weak-hearted fantasy life! She sounds absolutely endearing and devoted, as is appropriate for a fantasy of that sort.Overall Enjoyment: 10 of 10I am loving this show! I watch it first of the Monday shows that come out on Cruncyroll and will re-watch episodes most weeks. The combination of broad comedy, fun action sequences, macabre zombie mayhem, and strong plotting with a touch of sentimentality that sparkles with joy when it bubbles up to the surface make it a fun, fast paced, and thoroughly enjoyable ride! Oh, and Yuu is muy, muy dandere moe!!! But that isn't really why I like it. Honest...
